EQEmu vs EQ2Emu

First off, I want to take back all the terrible things I've said about the nature of EQEmulator.net lately. Apparently, there has been some super duper issues going on over there from hosts being on 'ludes, hackers stealing everyones PWDs, loginserver being purposefully crashed by someone with nothing better to do that ruin other peopls time, and insufficient hardware to support the hugeness that is EQEmulator.net.

So if I offended any of the admins who do visit this site, I apologize ;) I'm sure you were just as frustrated.

Fact 1:
But... even with EQEmulator.net's enormous issues with the project, with the site, and all other things mentioned, Image can post a thread this morning at 5am - and 5 hours later, it has 3 f'n pages of replies. I do not log in there for a week, and there are 20 PAGES of new posts, new threads.

Fact 2:
We post something here, it is the only post for an entire week, unless LE or I are talking, and it's usually in a private forum.

Fact 3:
Not trying to compete with our sister project at all, but everyone knows EQ2 is a far superior game to the outdated EQ1... and our project is current, has up-to-date client support, and so many other pluses... yet eqemulator.net has SO much activity as a site, while we lay silent and dormant. We have lots of members, lots of visitors daily - just ZERO posts unless it is the dev teams.

I'm asking for opinions of the apparent "lack of ambition" in our community. Real opinions, so maybe we can fix that.

My assumption; content. Server is coming along great, but there's no database. So nothing to talk about.

Seriously, what's up folks?

I agree, the traffic here is pretty much us devs and that's about it, and also were lacking content to keep a solid player base. I really only play on one server with EQEmu and thats Storm Haven. Trev has done some awesome work on his server and seems to be gaining more players all the time. What I think the main thing holding us back from making content very quickly is how we are still creating how the everything works together.

I'm still learning how to make quest scripts almost 2 weeks into starting. Granted I have learned a lot, not much is clear as to "this is how its made" and "this is how you do it". I know John is working on the wiki which will be a huge step in helping people know how to make stuff work, I have the LUA functions post open pretty much all day hah. John has done a great job on his DB editor also which is helping a lot, I hate SQL  , but things like object interaction are making quests kind of difficult at the moment. I suppose all in good time we will have things set up though...

In all honesty John, I don’t think this post is quite fair to us. Comparing EQEmu to us is like comparing big juicy, ready to eat apples to tiny not ripe little applettes (is there such a thing?)…

These two emulators are in much different places right now. EQEmu has been around for a long time, and although their development chugs most of the time, they are a damn near a fully functional EMU. People can form groups and guilds, buy/sell things, and raid fully scripted fights. That accounts for a massive portion of the community. It’s a portion we don’t have, and couldn’t support now if we did- the players.

Right now, here at EQ2Emu, we are the grunts. We are the developers, the server admins, the people actually active in the development of the emulator. As much as we like to pretend at this point, EQ2Emu is not a playable emu in the way EQEmu is. Sure you can log in and kill things, but that is about it. No tradeskills, no guilds (hence no in-game communities), no raids.

I have always thought this Emulator was a case of “If you build it, they will come”. The thing is people don’t play on half finished baseball diamonds, they play on finished fields. Give it time, let our emulator get more advanced, and I bet you will be amazed at what happens.
