Drowning - maybe a bug

haha first off, that scared the piss outta me.

But here's a bug, or maybe just due to terrain. I got below the water enough where my air ran out, but didn't drown. So by chance, I swam into deeper water and started taking damage... so Drowning is working, just not sure at what depth.

oK i thought id go and take a swim , On the island (Overlord outpost) water was deep enough to get breath meter to come up and empty.
Spam in chat box..
1245577838)[Sun Jun 21 19:20:38 2009] Unknown is hit for 5 drowning damage.
(1245577842)[Sun Jun 21 19:20:42 2009] Unknown is hit for 5 drowning damage.
(1245577842)[Sun Jun 21 19:20:42 2009] Unknown is hit for 5 drowning damage.
this goes on forever ;p , but HP never moves, so i thought depth is the issue.
/zone to commonlands jump in
Same thing breath meter appears and empties spam re taking dmg but no movement of hitpoints..regardless of depth
and the water in the commonlands (ocean) is freeakin Huuuuuge..
Game crashed , so posting this while its loading
.............back in game..............
After cruising around water for err at least 1/2 hr (still alive) whist being stationary , took no dmg (none in chat box)
Move forward dmg spam would start again (sometimes)
It seemed as though i had to be as deep as possible(near ocean floor ...regardless of actual water depth) for dmg to start .
Cruised around just under water level (with empty breath meter), then about 1/2 way down, then along bottom.
Was only when near bottom and moving , that dmg would show in chatbox.
The whole time this was happening hp's didnt go down at all.
Tried combat this worked fine, scenery /sound / graphics were all great underwater..
Changed hp's via changing character level up and down..each time regenerated to full (whilst apparently drowning ;p )
.......
Then
(1245580295)[Sun Jun 21 20:01:35 2009] It will take about 20 more seconds to prepare your camp.
(1245580300)[Sun Jun 21 20:01:40 2009] It will take about 15 more seconds to prepare your camp.
and game shuts down........oh well try again after

Where are you testing this? I am in Queen's Colony, jump in the water, go the minimum depth required for the breath meter to show up, wait for it to run out and I start taking damage immediately.

I was in Queen's Colony as well, just by Nebble Underroot the fisher guy. Swim out towards the Far Journey, then duck under the water just enough for your breath bar to appear. When it runs out, you are still breathing. If you dive down to where the triggerfish are, you start taking -41 damage.

Btw, I may be crossing games... but when you "drown" should it be just a hit damage animation? or that scrambling, writing agonizing death throws of drowning animation? lol...

I don't think there is an animation for it on live...

I actually might be thinking of old EQ, or one of my console games (Fallout, CoD, dunno)

Could you try to reproduce this using the latest? If you are able to, could you do a /loc so that I can go to your exact position and test it out?

Using the latest Dev SVN, I am in QC, as a Barbarian (big fella), and my loc is:

-48.7 -12.66 257.55 heading 303

This puts me under water so Breath is empty, yet I take no damage.

If I swim straight down(ish) I start taking damage.

-50.13 -15.29 257.18 heading 90

I can then swim back up a few feet and stop taking damage, but am still underwater, with 0 breath.

Also, with 0 breath, I headed towards shore just now. Just before leaving the water, I took 1 more 41 pt hit.

kk Thanks, I'll try it as you described. I was using a high elf for the test, but maybe it matters :P

I think when you are drowning it says something else in the textbox. Like, YOU are drowning! I can't remember for sure but I can check after work.

Woody, please try a LARGE race, like barb or ogre. There may be something up with players "center" and the depth of the water.
