/kill enhancement enhancement ;)

We just "fixed" the /kill command to depop the killed spawn from the zone, but I would like to ask that we change this a little. Can we make "/kill" simply kill the spawn, and "/kill 1" depop it? I'm running into situations where I'd like to test loot or quest rewards, but /kill doesn't actually Death the mob so no quest updates, and no loot testing without enduring the horrible lengthy 2 second fight against level 2 mobs.
