Hi i have a little question about that. I am waiting on the RoK expansion to be able to get the Emu working due to patching problems . Will I need to buy the expansion or only re patch at the expansion date?

I would think you could just repatch at that date, but you would not have access to the ROK expansion zones. If your account isn't flagged for the expansion, the patcher will not download some key files.
LE can probably answer this better

You're right, you won't download the expansion if your account is not expansion enabled. I know that for sure.

I think the goal here is to be able to start the EMU at the boxed set. You install from the CD/DVD and thats it, do not patch. If thats the case, you do not need a current subscription, but you will need to buy the boxed set (which comes with everything btw....all expansions and adventure packs).

If u do that you will not be able to get the neccessary files for any LU add-ons. (Neriak, Unrest, etc.)

Those will be on the CD/DVD...they are probably going to press the media very soon, with the release date just over 2 weeks away.

I can almost guarantee that if you patch on the day that the expansion goes live you will end up with a different version client than the box set, at which point LE has to decide to allow that client to work too.

I belive that patching that day will be a big no no. The simply reason being is that if SOE does what they did with Titanium, and that is, bundle a client that isnt even used on LIVE, or may only be used for that 1 day.
If it is used, then you could just patch that day, negating your RoK material, but having a functioning client for the emulator. Now if SOE does a Titanium, you cant patch, as that boxed client will never be what you could download from SOE.
The goal is really to get settle on a client that is "Obtain-able" by many people. RoK will sell in stores and e-stores for months after the November Launch date. You can still purchase EQ2 Oringinal Box off of Ebay if you wanted to. However, you can not magically jump back down to a specific patch version, without breaking the law anyhow. The only game that is massivley being emulated that doesnt follow this rule is WoW, since Blizz releases thier patches as files, and you can pick when you want ot stop, or when you want to keep going. SOE patches through thier patcher, and you have no say so of what files you want, and when you want them. Its either go all the way, or nothing at all.
I could keep going, but the facts remains the same. If the Dev team does choose to stop at the box, they dont have to worry about constantly rewriting code to make the game playable with live, and instead can focus on the finer things in life, like, combat, questing, stabeliztion, ect...

I can guarantee you that with all the changes going on in beta right now, the boxed client won't even resemble to client the day RoK goes live.

I have an obvious question about RoK and EQ2Emu... I have purchased DoF from the store, but I didn't purchase EoF, and I can play that expansion (digital downloads?) I am to understand that RoK is NOT going to be a DD, and anyone wanting to enter that expansion NEEDS to purchase the new box set? That seems kinda crappy for the general user.
Now as it relates to EQ2Emu - I totally understand wanting to use the raw Box set as a base, and because of that (alone) I intend to buy RoK - you're welcome SOE

but due to the live patches after RoK box DVD was pressed, we cannot patch like with EQ Titanium. Ok, I think I just answered my own question. Thanks for reading

The RoK expansion is not being released in a retail box. It is being released as a new compliation box that includes all previous expansions and adventure packs. You might have seen pics of it, it has the closeup of a Dark elf with blood red eyes on the cover.
