Beware the return of theer

This symbol is quite old and has been around since Kunark. Makes you wonder if what they planned with the Luclin expansions and above wasn't such a mistake at all, we were all just too impatient!

After the first ring was completed we got EQ2, I wouldn't be suprised if this newer overlayed symbol is the countdown for EQ3

I love the EQ2 lore...I believe that symbol is Nagafen...if I recall correctly, some secret society was trying to wake him up...or release him from some kind of prison...*trails off into deep thought with a pipe in mouth*

In eqrpg it says that he imprisoned himself in the fire giants castle and on EQ1 in the cleric epic it says he's already dead! not quite sure what to believe! Think it's all related to the xulous though! :-D

Ah found it...the symbols are that of the Chelsith stone...the dragon in the center is Veeshan...and the various smaller ones around it are that of the gods.

The language underneath is Wood Elf, and it says "The future of EverQuest II"

Now how cool is that? :D

Actually many believe the center symbol is Kerafyrm, not Veeshan.

The symbols on the outside im not sure are gods. The erudites city of Erudin (the good city) had the symbol all over the place and they mostly worshipped quellious and tarew marr!

On that screeny you put there is also the 3 circular symbols in the middle of the planet and the remaining moon on the outside, you will notice that luclin is half in the planet in the bottom left. Leaving us one moon left! *looks up*

The lizardmen lore talks about a world with 5 moons :-)

I was just reading THIS post...and found a very interesting discussion. It's starting to look like the Kerafym/Veeshan symbol is actually Theer himself, however, the Chelsith stone is but 1/4 of the complete "calendar". Looks like we'll have to wait for Sentinels of Fate to come out before we see the final piece of the puzzle, but the lore behind this is incredible. I have to admit the lore of EQ2 is very impressive...the ultimate AD&D adventure if you will :)

Original Everquest lore was the best I had ever read in any game. The 1st Fist of Light, the whole beginning of the game, player involvement, events, etc... lead to some amazing story telling. Including one of my favorite stories; the love of Nagafen and Vox... to keep them from procreating, they were imprisioned separately in Nagafen's Lair and Permafrost - kept apart.

I have the Codex of War archived somewhere... I'll see if I can dig it up. Some of the best reading ever, for a world I was able to take part in.

But the lore behind The Sleeper - just awesome, even if incomplete.

http://www.albrandes.com/skden/articles/sleeper.asp
Rumor: The Sleeper is the child of Vox and Nagafen
Fact: False. The Sleeper is (according to Lore) the child of two different colored dragons, and therefore, had all the powers of both, he is not the child of Vox and Nagafen. There has never been anything mentioned about Kerafyrm being their child, and each have official histories that do not place them as the Sleeper's parents.
It has become unofficial lore that Vox and Nagafen were seperated and punished because they fell in love and it was feared they would mate and produce another sleeper. However, they're both still virgins (unless you count the countless rapings they've offered over the past 3+ years.)

Here is the Official history behind Nagafen as chronicled by Verant in EverQuest Atlas: The Maps of Myrist (page 293): "Cast out of the Ring of Scale for reasons that still remain unclear, the red dragon Lord Nagafen has resided for centuries in the fiery depths beneath the LavaStorm Mountains.

As Chronicled within the annals of the devout followers of Erollisi Marr known as The Maidens of the Rose, Nagafen, true to his dragon nature exacted a toll in maidens from the people of Qeynos, forcing them to transport one maiden a year across the continent and leave her in his cavern dwelling. This went on for many years, until a pious and beautiful maiden named Erollette - a novice in the temple of Erollisi Marr, the Goddess of Love - was selected. When Erollette sank to the ground before Nagafen, she uttered a final prayer to her goddess, asking only that her sacrifice be the last the maidens of Qeynos must endure.

Her bravery and selflessness touched the goddess, who took pity on her. As Nagafen prepared to dine, Erollisi used a golden thread to sew Nagafen's heart to his stomach, twisting his pangs of hunger into pangs of love for Erollette. Under the enchantment, he could not bear to eat her, or anything else - he was lovelorn after all. So he grew hungrier, but the more he starved the more his heart swelled in his chest and the bigger his body became, until he was so huge he could not leave the confines of his cave. He begged her to stay with him, but seeing the dragon was helpless, Erollette rejoiced and returned home to report the good news and dedicate her life to worship."

In the original Official EverQuest strategy guide (and the Kunark guide, p. 181), it was hinted that the ice giants were attempting to unite Lady Vox with Lord Nagafen (with the help of some greedy barbarians) but no mention of their past was made.

depending which sources you trust, That is the Caerthielian Sigil, afaik.
A remnant from the ancient times of the first elven empire (the one predating the Combine empire), back when all elves were united under Innoruuk.

What I would like to see is the lore that tells the story from the point the gods split the dimensions, through the erradication of the first races on the planet, to the creation of the current races. That missing gap that could only be filled in if Theer kept a journal. The current opinion of the masses is that Theer was pretty much the only one alive through this period, given he was made immortal before the time split, and was alive through the creation of the races for EQ2. What a better way to spend your days of darkness than writing it all down.

Year 366, day 20: All is dead. All is dark. Cold. Very thirsty. Felt like dying. Collapsed. Fell down sand dune. Landed in water hole.
Year 366, day 21: Hot. Flies. Still no one around but me. Decided to kill myself. Jumped off cliff. Landed in water hole.

This isn't true. This is the result of a fanfic that was taken a little too seriously.
