EQ2Emulator Account Management Module
Posted: Sun Dec 20, 2009 9:52 pm
Here is a quick tutorial / explanation of how the new Account Management module works. As stated in the Announcements forum, accounts are now managed together - meaning if you have more than 1 account, you do not have to log in multiple times to simply change a password or check your characters information. All your login accounts should show up under a single login. Furthermore, if you register on these forums and link your Login Account to your Forum Account (just by logging into the account manager), you get added benefits explained below.
You do not need a forum account to play on an EQ2Emulator server!
But it's better if you do.

Obsolete, because now a forum account ID is required before you can make a Login or World Account.

Well that's a wrap. I hope this clears up any usage issues. If you have any questions, please post for help in our Support Forums - and definitely report any bugs you find to me asap!
But it's better if you do.
Forum Account required.
To Login to my existing Login Account:
- If you already have a Login Account, you can log into it and perform actions such as changing your password, email address, or deleting the entire account. You can also see which characters are linked to that Login Account and the different servers you have ever had characters on.
To Create a Login Account:
- Go to the Account Management module and click the link "Create a Login Account". Fill in the name and password you choose, and a valid Email Address (won't work without an email address!). That's it! Now you can log into any of our public EQ2Emulator servers and create a character.
Note: If "Create a Login Account" is not available, you already have the maximum number of Login Accounts we allow per user (see Restrictions Explained below)
To Link a Login Account to my Forum Account:
- Go to the Account Management module and fill in the Name and Password boxes, then click Login. The script will first check that your account name and password are valid, then identify your current IP Address, your Forum Member ID, and update your Login Account with this new information. You should now see your Login Account listed, as well as any servers linked to that login account.
(see image above for Login example)
To Link ALL my Login Accounts to my Forum Account:
- Perform the above task for each Login Account you own. You will need to click Logout between tries, then re-enter the next login account name and password and click Login. Now you should see all your login accounts listed on a single page.
To Create a Server Account:
- Server Accounts allow you to connect your EQ2Emulator World to the Public Login Server, so players can easily find your server to play on. You do not need a Server Account to run an EQ2Emulator World (search forum for "Minilogin"), but to ensure the best chance of players using your server, you should consider using our Public Login Server - and it's free!
To create a server account, you must first have a Login Account (see above). Once you have established a Login Account and have logged into the Account Management module, notice the section below My Login Accounts - My Server Accounts. Click the link "Create a Server Account", if it is available.
Note: If "Create a Server Account" is not available, you already have the maximum number of Server Accounts we allow per user (see Restrictions Explained below)
To Edit a Server Account:
- While logged into the Account Management module, click the Edit link next to the server you wish to edit. You will see a detailed screen appear:

Restrictions Explained
Account restrictions work this way;
Anonymous (no forum account) -
You get a fixed number of Login Accounts and Server Accounts strictly based on your current IP Address. That is, if you log into Account Management from the same IP with up to the restricted number of accounts (3 currently), you cannot create additional accounts -at all- from that IP Address. Account Manager relies on your IP Address for identification, in conjunction with your login name and password, so even if your IP changes, the account manager updates your info so it is current.
If you are logging in from a public location like a library, college campus, or other shared internet service, everyone logging in from that same IP Address will have access to your Login Account! The only time this is a very very bad thing is if you plan to run an EQ2Emulator Server as well. You do not want just anyone changing the settings of your World!
It is because of this that it is highly recommended that you take the time to register for a Forum Account to further secure your Login Account from being accessed by anyone from a shared internet service.
Note: No one can steal your actual Login Account info, nor can they change the data or delete your account. In order to make any changes to your Login Account info, you must know the specific password to that login account you are trying to change - so in this, at least there is some safety.
Registered (registered forum user) -
This is the recommended path for creating a Login and/or Server Account on this website. First, create a forum account like on any other forum on the web. Once you Activate, come back here, log into the forum, and click Account Management and create your login account. If you do things this way, you will be far better off and more secure.
First benefit of having a Forum Account is that the restriction now applies to IP Address AND Forum Account - so that means even if you have 1 IP Address, but 3 Forum Accounts, you can have up to nine (9) Login Accounts (using the current restriction of 3 per IP/account).
Plus there is an added check if you are logged into the Forum where we not only check your name and password, but your Forum ID, email address, and a few other bits of information to ensure the account being displayed is you.
Please register for a forum account before creating your Login or Server Accounts. While we keep backups regularly, if you lose your account or server because you did not choose to take 5 minutes to create a secure Forum Account, there is nothing we can do to recover your information.
Obsolete, because now a forum account ID is required before you can make a Login or World Account.
Account Warnings:
- If you log into your account and see a warning, it is likely because you did something you should not be doing in the Account Manager, and got caught. Anyone accumulating three (3) Warnings is banned from logging into the Account Manager, and soon to come, banned from using our Login Server and possibly the entire website, depending how you earned the ban.
Just like in life, if you think you should not be doing it, chances are you should not do it.
Well that's a wrap. I hope this clears up any usage issues. If you have any questions, please post for help in our Support Forums - and definitely report any bugs you find to me asap!
