Hey all

Post by 94dgrif » Fri Mar 05, 2010 10:25 am

Hey there

My wife and I have been playing EQ1 for a full decade now, and a few old expat EQ1ers had us play the trial EQ2 with them last weekend. The friends were real life friends of ours a few years back but moved out of state, and as a consequence we largely lost touch. Since we enjoyed the game and hanging out with them, we looked into extending out station account to subscribe to both. Unfortunately we just can't justify the additional $30 a month (both accounts) just to hang out with our friends. My dream scenario is to have our own server that the four of us can play on, although I'd be happy with a LAN server that my wife could play on together.

I'm actually a bit of a comp sci myself, although databasing and SQL are areas I've largely avoided.... until now!

So I'm just giving a shout out to you good people for getting this project off the ground and keeping it running.

Edit: apparently I forget the word "The" has a T in it.

Heh, welcome to the community. I am trying to get an updated ServerPack put together for a few that need it, but can't seem to get it working just yet. Once I get that, you should be able to see our latest/greatest additions since the last ServerPack (minilogin) was posted.

I spent a while reading through various forums to see how everything works, and I learned that you inherited the project lead. So congratulations/commiserations on that, but accept our thanks for keeping the ball in play.

I'm still trying to figure out how to get the emulator or at least mySQL up and running, and I suspect you'll be finished packing the new version a while before I manage that!

Welcome! It's always good to have another knowledgeable head around. If your having trouble, make sure to make your way over to the wiki. Everything about what you need to do to get started is on there!

Hey there ilythor, and thanks for the suggestion. Yessir, I've been following the checklist at http://www.eq2emulator.net/wiki/index.p ... ows_Server after having a little trouble with broken links in the forums. So far I have mySQL downloaded, installed, and following a tutorial to understand a little better on how it works.

News just in - I created my first table!

Hate to put more on your plate, but can you give us the broken links? That way we can fix them and hope no one else has to sift through a bunch of broken ones.

Congrats on your first table, you are on your way!

Sure can. I actually deliberately didn't want to post them all because I didn't want to say hi and then list criticisms all at once. I helped run a EQ raid alliance site and after a few years the amount of literature there far outnumbered the number of admin eyes able to keep them all updated. I was very happy to get the members to fact check and report mistakes, so I'm glad to hear you run things the same way.

Unfortunately the only page I still have open with the bad links is here:
http://www.eq2emulator.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=97

There were one or two more with bad links that I think were in the tutorials, but I'm afraid I don't really remember. I'll have a look around just in case, though I vaguely think they linked to that same two registration pages.

Edit: Incidentally I think those two registration pages were merged into this single page:
http://www.eq2emulator.net/index.php?page=13
I may be wrong though.

I'll see what I can do to fix those links, thanks for posting them. Most of the time the devs have their heads buried in the Emu and we often don't see the stuff ups on the website!
