Zexis the Harpist (split)

Hate to harp on and on about this, but these are exactly the reasons why i wanted the Sentinel's box set added to the support list. Do we have an eta on that, John/Zcoretri? It is kind of holding back on my server dev as well since I don't want to have to redesign my items...

Not to harp back, but I did say with LE gone, the likelihood of us getting any new client support (especially a major expansion) is minimal. Sure, we can do it. But it will take us 10x longer than it would take LE.

No ETA, sorry.

Oh I understand, don't think me ungrateful! :P  :P I know Zcoretri and Secrets are working on it.

My concern is this- I start developing items and then poof! I need to recreate half of them because of stat changes/consolidations. I have a small team and I would rather not do work twice. :D

That and there are some fantastic models I want to play with!

Going a touch off-topic here, but do you have any idea how many times our small team has done work twice on nearly every aspect of this emulator, because people keep wanting the newest client/expansions supported? Every system has been re-vamped at least once, and if it hasn't already, it's going to be. Data is no different. Our popped zones are currently going through their 3rd complete repop due to the non-stop changes SOE makes to their game. And now our 112k items are probably going to be worthless as well, because our 3-man team cannot create functionality and data faster than SOE re-writes their entire game every year.

You want to know why we're still on 0.6.5 and no Database released yet for our project? Because no one has any interest in helping us get our work done faster than things change in Live. Custom servers have bigger "teams" than the core project, so cry me a river. SF expansion is not a priority.

I thought since this has the potential to really get me flaming hot, I split this topic to leave poor nlmiller's help post intact ;)

Flaming hot, eh? Am I one that is known to fan the flames?

The only issue I have with not moving forward if for new player concerns. With the All-in-one package model SoE is taking people are no longer able to buy the old box sets without resorting to Ebay. Sony is actually buying back unsold boxsets. Currently, the only truly functional box set we have is TSO. At last check there were only 8 TSO boxes even on Ebay.

The kicker is I am fine with that for now. I think you perceive that I am chomping at the bit for the upgrade. It would be nice for me since I am such a model/zone whore, but I can live without for now. On a personal level… for my own server, my only concern regarding the upgrade is items. If you say the upgrade isn’t happening for a while, that’s fine. I will continue on.

As for comments that my team is bigger than yours… I am glad you think there are that many people interested in helping me, but there aren’t. Right now it consists of myself, Solaras and Shaoden and the latter two haven’t even begun development yet since I am still bringing the two of them up to speed on my anal retentive ideas for my world. You really should make a character on SL and kick around the one zone I have populated on the entire server. I haven’t even begun any quests, items, spells, skills, factions, etc. etc. ad nauseum. Don’t think I have all this stuff done because I don’t.

Don’t think for a moment that I am not thankful for everything you guys are doing. I am very thankful. I honestly wish I could be more help to you guys. My model lists are currently up to date (who would of thunk it!) and you don’t need my help with Tess’s zones anymore. I do my best trying to help you all with my knowledge of the game and client, and try to keep you guys apprised of development changes in the live game since much of that info can help us here. I submit bugs as I come across then in my populating runs. I try to help you guys as much as I can.

In summation- I am not freaking out over it, you shouldn’t freak out over it. Sorry If I came off like a pushy kid… I do that sometimes. Without you guys I would have nothing.

You are guys are my world! :D

PS- sure, bitch and moan until I show up on EQ2Dev IRC and then never be there when I do… I see how it is!

YOU, ZexisStryfe, definitely do invaluable work for EQ2Emulator - be it human-readable model lists, awesome post discovery from SOE devs, and of course the endless cheerleading ;) YOU, are not who I am referring to. So many people could do so much, even if it is just a little, yet it seems most are just willing to sit back and wait, playing the same exact zone over and over. It's a dead horse, but it's mine to beat. With any more help, we'd be so much farther along. Content, but especially C++/Dev. Before it was just LE. Now it's just Scatman. Why is it we cannot have 2 C++ guys at the same time? I'd probably faint and die.

I am "working from home", so if I am on IRC, I would never get any work done. My boss keeps close tabs on if this telecommuting thing is working or not, and I have co-workers who visit these forums (trying to get even ONE of them interested in coding with us a while), so... I try and behave =)

...and, it's raining AGAIN. wtf? seriously.

Now if only i could figure out visual states I could started on those lists... they are the real pain in the ass.

So hows the real job treating ya Scats?

Funny, my company blocks most stuff, but eq2emulator.net is not one of them  ...I do get blocked trying to get to the SOE forums though, lol

Well I interned with them my junior and senior year of college so it wasn't hard to get back into the swing of things (same team, same products, etc). I'll tell ya what though, it's nice being out of school and not having homework/projects to do AFTER you've been in school from almost 9-5 (/peer LE - even though he works + goes to school fulltime) :P

It's awesome getting paid for what you love to do!
