Hey guys,
I am not sure if any of you have been keeping up on the Fan Faire news, but they announced two major changes to EQ2 that are going to predate RoK.
1.) All SoE games are going to be moved to a centralized Station Launcher from which you can access all the games.
2.) A new online card game "Legends of Norrath: Oathbound" is being integrated into both EQ1 and EQ2. It seems to be similar to M:tG however you can get rare cards which give you in game loot.
My concern is that both of these changes are going in Pre-Kunark (Mid September I believe). Since I don't know a whole lot about how the clients currently connect to EQ2EMU login servers, is this new Station Launcher going to further complicate the issue?
Also, does the inclusion of the Legends of Norrath: Oathbound in the RoK box complicate things? Also, any chance at some point this could become functional in EQ2EMU? *wishful thinking i know*

Well, EQ2 looks for the logon server's address in a config file in EQ2 root directory. If a centralised launcher is being released then I would say they will remove it and make the launcher look for a logon server from station servers. This poses another complication.
I'd say, we should keep backup copies for the time being.

Well, if they do something that severly cramps the way EQ2 connects, I still belive that it can be worked around.
If the Launcher polls SOE servers for list of server to connect to, you can make a mini emu to send back eq2emu servers instead of SOE servers.
The only thing that could hamper stuff is if things become hard-coded, but I doubt SOE will do that. Even though, it could still be changed, but involves some legality issues as you would need to obtain a copy of a hacked exe file (think No CD/DVD cracks). Its ilegal to reverse the program to change the list, and its ilegal to share that reversed program. The thing is that its not illegal to realease a program that will do this, as thats just a program. The user that actually uses it is the infringing one, i belive.
Anyhow though, no matter what happens, if the dev team puts all the time in to make the emu work, they will more than likely crack whatever SOE does to prevent the emu to work.
All of course is my 2 cents though.
