Sure, collect as much as you can just in case they throw a curve ball with their new client

Ah, that's great. Try to collect Login Data, Zoning Data etc... Items/Spells aren't really that important right now.

I have been in beta for almost a month now. I am not sure if collecting data will do any good because things are in such crazy flux right now that nothing is the same from day to day. They are making pretty sweeping changes to the client at a rate of almost 2 or three major updates a week. I am aware of at least one issue they are trying to fix that will require a major code revision to get it to work.
This also has me more than a little worried as to what is actually going to be on the discs regarding RoK.

I'm playing beta too, I don't think they won't change too much any item or spawn, so would be better to have that info collected than nothing. We can do a comparison later, but better to begin with beta RoK data when it's released than nothing.

Actually, if you read the beta boards, that is exactly what they are doing. For the last week and half they have been reitemizing almost the entire expansion. In addition to this, they still don't have the spawns occuring properly in most of the zones, and they still hit like freight trains (nothin like 70 solos hitting for 1500 dmg a wack on a lvl 75 character).
On a side note- I am curious when the expansion is going to go gold... has anyone heard anything? It is supposted to ship Monday, so I would imagine it should be any day now.

Its being released on the 13th, but evidently the discs were already minted and are shipping on the 9th. That unfortunately means everything that has gone on in beta probably for the last week won't be on the discs.
ie- the sarnak appearance changes.

Don't worry as they will patch everyday until all is working, as they ever do

Not worried about live, i know that will work. i am worried about the viability of the client for EQ2Emu's use.

Knowing how SOE is about patching, I'm very sure Lethal will have to update world every week for sure, until live EQ2 is stable enough

In the first few months of the game there were patches almost every other day but now SoE doesnt patch that often unless its a LU or a MAJOR disfunction in the game. SO updating the client isnt that much of a worry in my opinion...but I dont think that keeping the client that is on the RoK discs is a good idea. I think we should wait for the expansion to flaten out a little and then use that as a base.

The point of using the expansion as the client is so that new people would be able to play using something they already have. If we use a client from some later date, new people wont be able to play. I understand your concerns, but chances are the client that it ships with is stable enough to build the emu around. So it might not ever have the latest cool feature that they added yesterday, but with only Cad and me working on the emu at this point it will take a year to get the important stuff working anyways.

I agree fully. This has to be compatible with a base-install, or it will never get off the ground.
