I'm back

Hello everyone,

I would like to start contributing again... I tought I would make a post before I start working on stuff, so I do not spend much time on stuff that other people are already working on.

I installed the latest serverpack, I could'nt help but notice that the good side (queen's colony, Qeynos) is more developped than the evil side... so I figured I could work on the Overlord's outpost, and freeport neighborhoods (mariner's bells, spawns (event's stuff... like halloween and christmas decorations removal?), missing starting items for evil classes, maybe even quests).

So is the DB that was made available to us the current project's DB? (I will be testing my work locally before submitting)

Do you need that kind of contributions/help ?

And when I complete a part of the work, how do you want me to submit it (if you want me to) ?

I will also be able to start collecting again in a week or so...

Welcome Back!

Our team missed you! Maybe not John; he doesn't like anyone, though.

The DB your looking at is ours, yeah. We definitely need any help we can grab, and Database/collecting help is ALWAYS needed. Once you've made a change, and your pretty confident with it make a thread in Submissions. If you keep up the hard work, we'll give you SVN privileges and you can submit it straight to there, meaning your submissions go straight to all the servers wanting to update.

Long story short, It's good to see you again.

Not to contradict our glorious CM, but DB changes do not get submitted via SVN. Our content team (still) uses only our private DB Editor tool, and the EQ2 DB Project server. There is no way we will accept SQL or Diffs on databases that admins run locally, because that will just be too hard to integrate into our own work.

You are definitely welcome to join the Content Team and help re-build the DB when we start that work again. Right now, I'm still waiting to see how this project evolves before starting a fresh DB on the EQ2 DB Project server. Our plan is to nuke the current content completely, and start from square-1, since we'll do it a lot faster, better, and hopefully have more eyes on the info.

Once the new DB (re-do) reaches at least where TessEQ2 (release DB) is, we'll start pushing that data to the test server for players to test and submit bugs again. That probably won't be for a couple months - at the current rate.

ok,
instead of looking for missing db entry values and/or correcting data, I'd get to help build a new database...
I'm up for that, count me in. It would be alot easier tbh. I zoned into sunken city earlier to test the mariners bell... omg there was like 3,000 crabs.

It will be alot faster this time, all the scripts (quests, etc) are still good.

I realized after making the post, that it would'nt be possible for me to collect data from live since we do not have access to the tools anymore...

anyway, I have free time, and I need something to keep my mind occupied. Doesn't matter how my contributions end up into the current DB really, as long as it does, right? Just need data to work with.

The problem is, I have all the raw data for the new DB here locally, and I haven't had the time to get it all organized. Work (RL) is extremely busy, and I've been waiting to see how the project evolves before starting the new one.

In other words, there's no "data" to play with right now, really. The Release DB is the old one, we're starting a new one. The new one isn't ready for Content Team work yet. When it is, I will let everyone know.

Zone points and stuff like you've been doing is probably ok, since the zones themselves are not changing - only zone spawns.

yeah, even if the door has a different id in the db, the coordinates will be the same

Not to sound ungrateful for the fixes, but I am curious why you haven't simply asked to join the team, get an account on our server and use our editor to apply these changes directly. We had this problem last time you were interested in helping, the whole following protocol thing.

We have a set way of doing things here, and it works. If you want to continue, I strongly suggest you get with me, get an account on EQ2 DB Project server, so I can grant you access to our DB editor tools. Otherwise, it seems like duplicate work for you to fix things, then post them, then have one of us enter the data.

Didn't think I only had to apply to be accepted? :?

No, my mind-reading cap is in the shop for repair. Understand we have 100's people who all come here saying ooh ahh i'm ready to help that never do. Setting someone up takes a ton of work on my part, so I do not "assume" anything.

You are set up now. The editor should be fairly straight forward, but feel free to ask anyone on the team how to use it. It's a custom hack job with zero docs, so hopefully you know your way around on your own.
