Hello everyone!
I have been following the development of this emulator for quite some time but I didn't have enough time to get involved. Now that I've some spare time, I'd like to help with the database development.

I've also been around the eqemu scene almost since the beginning and worked on a few projects which didn't go far but allowed me to learn about how things works. I'm pretty sure things are different with eq2emu but I'm a fast learner if anyone is around to give me the basics.

My main problem right now is that I don't know where to start. I tried to come on the irc channel to get some infos but there it is really quiet out there.
If anyone is willing to get me started to help with database development/improvement, feel free to contact me. In the meantime, I'll install the latest server version to see what I can do.

Look at the project status module, that'll tell you what needs doing. Have a look around the forums and you'll see what we need help with. I'm sure one of the DB guys can give you a better clue, but make sure any changes you want submitted go to submissions forum, we'll take care of the rest.

One of the things we mentioned about the DB is that it's probably going to get wiped very soon, bare that in mind. Grab the database, keep an eye out for any bug reports, bugs you find, or anything that needs to be fixed and go for it. Any questions: Relay them to the Database Support section and you'll be answered pretty quick.

Sylva1n has taught me what I needed to know about how to find and correct bugs.
Since the DB is going to get wiped, I'll try to work on some statics things that might not change like zonelines, revive points, bells and submit the content once I think its ready.

Thank you for your efforts, Minuss. First let me say if you want, you should join the Content Design team and get access to our private editor so you can make the changes permanently yourself. Shoot me a PM if you are interested in this, otherwise forum submissions will work - it'll just take longer to get to our DB.

Regarding the new DB (wipe) - this is true, and this phase has already begun. Keep in mind a few things; zone lines (signs), doors (widgets) and spawn tents (objects) are all considered "spawns". Simplest way to view what is getting wiped is, if the object is not in a zone when it is /depop'd, it is getting wiped now. "Spawns" are more than just NPCs or monsters to EQ2. Keep that in mind when you start working on this data.

Ie., you can get the proper coordinates for a sign spawn that triggers a player to zone, but that sign is being respawned and thus your changes will not be applied til after that zone is respawned.

Revive Points however are not tied to an object (just an x,y,z,heading). Those can be done for every zone in the game without any spawn data. Hope this helps (and is probably posted in the wrong place haha).
