Hello, i go by Riddla, i popped on this site a while back tried it out a bit then had some computer(and internet) issues and lost it, i Saw that EQ2 Extended came out and i remembered about this site, i was wondering if the packets from that would help at all for this project i would like to know before i submit(not sure how yet) that could be 1. not useful or 2. a setback for someone that has to go through them to see if there are the right kind and wont damage any of the old data.

I'd say they're for the most part -probably- the same, aside from any new packets that are sent to restrict people for using certain features until they've given SOE all their money.

First of, welcome to the light, and welcome back.

We've had a discussion about the client data, as as far as I could discern, the data is rather similar. You can submit your log, but for now label it as collected from Eq2X, or something along those lines.

Any data is good data!!!

I am fairly confident (99.9%) that our collector will not even work with the new EQ2X client. I haven't had a chance to test this, but I will this week(end) to see. I realize it's the same game, but I am pretty sure this client is the streaming client, and we cannot currently collect data from that. Maybe never will, since the only person with that knowledge is gone.

It is the streaming client.

I don't see why not. You probably will need some adjustments but you can pre-load all data before playing like normal and it's the same client except a new UI and lower quality spell effects. And if I remember right you can stream with the old client and trial.

Without getting into too much detail, it's how the collector "hooks" in that is the problem. Not to mention, if the crypto is different for this streaming version of the client, there's no way the current staff here has any idea how to decode that.

We'll see, but I am confident it will not work. Hope to be wrong.

Well John, actually in theory if one dedicates himself/herself to sit and let the client download all DAY than he/she will not be "Streaming" anymore, thus making it similar to a "standard" client. I have somewhat played with my theory and it works 49.3% thus far.

Then wouldn't you be stuck with a just a standard install of eq2? With some extras and a different client build?

Forgive me if I'm playing stupid, but wouldn't be easier just to uhm... install it???

Well not exactly, they use diffrent login server and opcodes

Example:
My sentinel's fate install for live can not nor will not uses the extended client

My download extended client can not nor will not use my live client ever.

So even if one installs, they have to pick one or the other.

14.99 /month for Live
or 14.99/for close to live but not quite because sony is stupid.

I will dedicate a day( or however long it takes) to download all the files if it will work.. heck i may download it all anyway because i don't like the streaming(if i can find a way to do it) and if the sniffer works(hopefully)i can upload the logs and see if the info is the same or if it is a waste of time

I found that it you just open the EQ2X launcher and login but dont press the Play button it will download all the other files with that said 10.16GB remaining(might take a little while)

~Thanks for all the info and thoughts~

if you open the launcher and don't press play, AND had the streaming launchpad on eq2Premium, you can just copy your assests folder. all you need is 1 file DL'd and this will work

there's a way to copy the files with the real launchpad, but the discoverer was waiting for red name approval to release the steps and just never did

Either way, with upgraded internet 10gb is actually entirely not a problem

If you guys do need help with the streaming client, let me know. I can probably download it this very evening.

This is not the official announcement of this, but since we talked about it here I wanted closure.

In an amazing twist that I could not possibly have predicted (99.9% certainty against it) - we CAN collect using this "streaming" client. It's still Everquest2.exe, and apparently the assets you need not being present immediately is unimportant.

Thank you SOE for not rendering our little project moot =)

I stand corrected - and thankful to be wrong.
