EQ2PacketCollector - A Warning

All,

It has come to our attention that recent changes to the EQ2 Client have enabled SOE to detect when our Packet Collector is running, and has begun issuing account warnings, suspensions and possibly leading to eventual account bans should activity continue to be detected.
It is the official recommendation of the EQ2Emulator Project Team

to stop all use of EQ2PacketCollector.exe immediately,

as it is broken anyway with the new measures in place,

and will only lead to your account being flagged/banned.
While we still do not believe SOE put these measures in place specifically to block EQ2Emulator's progress (hey, I know they love us!), we're unfortunately a victim in this war against cheaters and hackers.

I cannot go into specific detail about this, and public speculation or discussion about what SOE did and why will be purged from this site. Let's just call it a day, and move along quietly.

What does this mean for the future of EQ2Emulator?
  • As you know, without collecting packets and analyzing how the client and server talk to one another, there is virtually no way to implement new systems. Our team has plenty of older data to work with, so we will continue to build EQ2Emulator with it's current functionality and content, and finish some systems we do have collected packets for. And there's a lot. So we'll be busy for a while...

What can you do for EQ2Emulator now?
  • Get involved in content development.

Get involved in C++/Server work, because there's a ton of both.

Be active on the forums helping us fill in the blanks when we do hit a spot where a "packet" would have been a nice-to-have. :)

Log into our test servers and test new content and features, submit bugs, etc.

Most importantly, build a community - both in-game and on the forums. This project cannot survive at this point without YOUR active participation.
