EQ2 completely single play

I have seen a WoW sandbox mod. A player can play WoW as if it were single player game like Oblivion.

Is this possible with EQ2 emulation and does this exist?

I would love to just play EQ2 complete single play with out the need for a server.

How does WoW provide content without a server feeding the client data? EQ2Emu has a "repack" (ServerPack 1.2) with tons of content, no real set up. Download, unzip, run 3 batch files, login and play. Aside from a requirement of something having to tell the client where to put stuff, that's about as stand-alone as we get.

I imagine one could "host" the "server" on the same machine one runs the client. I am not sure as to the ServerPack's limitations (or lack there of). This idea works with things like MySQL, and unless the server is under some super heavy load it should be fine.

The main problem, is that Eq2 was not designed to be played single player. You might have to tweak a lot of stats/items/classes/dungeons so it can actually BE played single player without getting butchered in 20 seconds.

It seems plausible, with a few work arounds

These are some examples of WoW Sandbox.

Maybe a companion NPC could be used for some of the hard parts of the game.

Yeah, so it is Client/Server with a local host.

Don't see why it shouldn't work, go nuts!

Ahh. Ok, I watched the videos. I have no idea how they are providing an entire world of content without feeding it to the client via some sort of mysql or other database, which I did not see them running. Nor do I see a database with NPCs, items, or anything at all... just an empty world.

But most importantly, EQ2Emulator will *never* package the entire client with our emulator. That would have Sony jumping all over our asses big time, because that is their property. You cannot "steal" it just to make playing easier.

Our ServerPack could not possibly be simpler. Download, extract, run 3 batch files, play. The only thing that's on you is having the 6118L client (or earlier) and knowing how to set the eq2_default.ini file to your local host.

If someone outside this project wants to put something like this together, that is their own deal... I have no control over that. But I think we've made solo play simple enough.

It seems to me they pull the content out of the WoW files themselves, all the default models. Which is why you see them unclothed. You wouldn't see monsters because there is no spawn data, no database. Which is why this is for exploring. Unless they really hack it up, this is all it will be.

Probably why it's called a "sandbox"... where little children play.

Grown men play on a real server ;)

Why would you want to play EQ2 singleplayer. That would get very boring. Plus you can already solo most of the game except for the few hard low zones and higher level dungeons and raids.

I would love to play EQ2 alone/by myself. No other living soul except npc's and bots like in EQemu. I wish to host it and play alone on my own server. I had a blast being able to be a GM and summon whatever I wanted when I wanted it. I own the rise of kunark version. I have owned it for along time. when I quit EQ1 after a year of play, I tried EQ2 for a month. Lets just say at the time I had a pc that couldnt run the graphics of EQ2 so I quit. Few years later and I look in an old box during our move and "Oh! EQ2!" and I see there is a eq2emu. Now I might be able to run around and explore like I really didnt get a chance to do when I was active on it.

This is why I dont care if I host my game on my own machine. I dont really like depending on someone elses server. Too easy to want to play and find out the server is down or something.

You can do it, with the serverpack as far as this manager is aware, it should be no problems!

Ilythor is right. Download and run the ServerPack, and knock your lonely self out :)

FWIW, our Test Center server is online 24x7x365. Rarely is there an outage, unless a critical bug was encountered that we are investigating. If the bug is reproducible, the test server is brought back online immediately and debugging happens offline.

Note: This project is STILL in ALPHA - which means, do not "expect" everything to be SOE-perfect, or you will be disappointed.

Thanks for your replies! I will try this during my vacation which begins in a couple of days. Now I only need to locate all the files needed to download and install. I dont think I have all of them\or most of them.

I love the last comment of being able to play with my lonely self lol! Being a mom with 2 young teens, playing rpg's are my getaway. I usually hang out on the Sony Home network, which is where I went after quitting cold turkey from playing on the pc.

I also read on the EU sony blog that Sony is thinking about making EQ1 playable from the the ps3. If later on there is a server with real peeps playing there I might consider playing there and be in parties again but right now I just want to play eq2 world with godlike status if choose to be or just play it normal. No preassures, grinding at the levelling. Log on and off without losing feeling you letting your party down or losing precious experience gaining moments like what used to happen. Wonder if thats called addiction lol!

Thanks guys for all and any help you give me thru this process!

You should be able to with an SF boxed client, just read the forums on how to get that client running with Server Pack 1.2.

It works nicely, aside from the fact that 99% of the world has no spawns/quests/npcs or anything of that nature, it is a true sandbox. But the plus side is you can use the entire game world like a house or guild hall. You can still spawn stuff through the chat (like a console) and move/resize it and all that good stuff, it's in a sense a lot mroe fun than actually playing eq2...

I wouldn't say 99% is un-spawned... that's unfair.

98%, maybe ;)

Hopefully our new efforts will give you guys something more to play with than the first 10 levels of Shattered Lands.

But realize, we're very short on content in general due to SOE blocking the use of our collector. Unless we find a bunch of kamikaze collector players who don't care of they get warnings or bans, what we got is about 180 zones (out of 450+). SAD FACE.

...but, "i told you so" ;)
