All,

Please be sure to read this post, specifically about the supported client versions. In summary, we have eliminated many obsolete login versions from our servers to help streamline development. Maintaining 25 different client versions had become too cumbersome and time consuming, so we are now supporting only 4 -
  • ROK (4412-843)
    TSO (5040-908)
    SF (6118-1008)
    DoV (7628-1096)
The last client, DoV, is still undergoing heavy modifications to be completely compatible, but the other 3 should still work fine.

Speaking of ROK/TSO - there will come a time, after we release 0.7.0, where there will be no more support for these older clients. The primary reason is because of the SOE revamps to Items specifically, that will not work on these older clients... and maintaining 2 sets of items will be impossible.

There will be an announcement at the time 0.7.0 is released clarifying our position on the ROK/TSO client support. Meanwhile, those clients will still work on our Test Center servers.

Secondly, in an effort to roust up "more business" for the EQ2Emulator Project, I have adjusted the forums security once again to allow more visibility to visitors, hoping to entice them to register and get involved. Account Management still requires a Forum Account, but for now, Guest users can at least browse the support forums to get an idea what we have going on here.

Any other suggestions are welcome. We're preparing for our y2012 goals, and your input is valuable to us. Thanks again for being a part of the EQ2Emulator Project!

So so you (or does anyone) know if the SF or Velious clients purchased from steam install a "boxed" client version?

Direct2Drive use to download the entire box clinet but they changed it a little while ago to just download the patcher. I wouldn't be suprised if steam just downloads the patcher now as well.

I wouldn't think valve would take the time to keep recieving updated client files from Sony and then pushing it to Steam users who own the game, then again I could be wrong. It seems to me like it should be the initial version and then you just patch once you install it from steam. I would just need to know from someone who owns it on steam before I went and spent 30 bucks only to find out I'm just throwing the money away.

I guess I am not as avid a gamer as I thought, because I never understood the need (or value) of Steam. Why not just buy the game? $30? Sounds like you're saving $10 lol. Maybe that's a lot to some, but meh...

As for what client version it is, I'd have no idea myself without seeing the version # on the titlebar of the Everquest2.exe. If they report that anywhere, it could get you closer to knowing if it is compatible. If it's not too far off the version #, you could always get that package, and use our client patcher.

when you buy EQ2 on an online game selling website, basically all they do is sell you a cd-key and give you a link to SOE's installer wich installs and patch your game dir to match current live version...
