Happy 2012!!!
from the EQ2Emulator Team
After almost 3 years since 0.6.5 released, we present to you EQ2Emulator 0.7.0 with a ton of core server fixes, many new features and systems, and a few system revamps. Lots of the attention these last few years have been placed on us learning the code better, since we lost our star developer LethalEncounter in 2010. Scatman quickly picked up the slack though, and between him and myself, we have managed to discover and fix numerous bugs and re-write some half-crazed systems to function better than ever.from the EQ2Emulator Team
EQ2Emulator 0.7.0 also has had a ton of work done on the moving parts you do not see as players or admins; our Public LoginServer has undergone extensive updating and added features to provide more information on our website. We've added the ability for player Equipment to be seen on the player at Character Select, along with cleaning up much of the code and data that has become obsolete as the game matured.
Our DB PatchServer has also been revamped to deliver more content in a streamline fashion. It is still not robust enough to deliver the large tables of data we need for Items and Spawns, but we're working to make a system that does. Soon, all you'll need to do is compile your world, and start it up and you'll have a fully functional EQ2Emulator server!
We've been writing tools! Editors, World Builders, Packet Analyzers, keeping our Packet Collector running, and a ton of other little tools to help us build a better world. All of this takes time, and learning efforts, which is why it has taken us this long to push out this release.
The bad news with this release is we are still stuck on the pre-Sentinel's Fate client for ultimate compatibility (version 6118L). This is due to the size of our development team still being no more than 3 developers at any one time, and we devs have extremely busy lives outside EQ2Emu. Compound that with Sony revamping so much of EQ2 Live itself, there was no chance we 2-3 people could keep up... so for THIS release, we're staying at Pre-SF.
However, moving forward into 0.7.1, I am making it a top priority to get the latest box set (Destiny of Velious) and Steam releases of Age of Discovery compatible, asap. If we can catch up with Sony again, maintaining live client support might become possible.
Please check our ChangeLog for changes since February 2009, since there are literally thousands of fixes and enhancements, I cannot list them here in this release notice. But I assure you, your EQ2Emulator Project is not dead, we're just a little busy trying to learn all we can
