Current Live client - Last Chance!!

Post by LethalEncounter » Thu Nov 15, 2007 4:12 pm

Apparently a lot of people downloaded the game from SOE and never got the game disks. To help people out, I will consider getting the current live version working with the emu but you must meet me halfway. I make no promises on how long it will take. The official client for the emu will still be 4412, but I'll enable the multiple version support for this newer client as well. Here is what you must do:
1. If you don't currently have a separate copy of the game for the emu, create it now! This WILL be the last time that I will update to live for the foreseeable future and if you don't follow these instructions you will not be able to play the emu.
2. In the folder that you use for the emu, update to live. Be sure to do this before the date that I specify below. If you update after the date then you will not be able to play the emu.
3. If you don't have the Kunark expansion set on DVDs, then burn them onto DVDs using the folder that you set up in step 1. If your hard drive fails or you need to reinstall it for whatever reason, you will need this backup.
Here is what I will do:
1. I will patch to Live on Sunday Nov 18th, 2007 at approximately 6:00 PM CST. You have until this time to grab the latest client. After this time, DO NOT PATCH.
2. I will update the structs and opcodes necessary to get this new client working.
3. I will release version 0.4 that contains these modifications as soon as I can complete it. Note that next week in Thanksgiving for the US and I wont be around that week.

While I agree that this is great news, in my fiddlings with the 4412 client I have discovered that creature models exist only up to 7634 - Phara'Dar (not counting the 50000 models) even though there are appearance entries for many more models. If the current client is made acceptable as well, then models up to 7948 will become available. This could be a problem, because if a world admin could use a model for a monster between 7634 and 7948 as a creature, ie- Tribunal Avatar, what happens to players running 4412? Do they get attacked by a creature they can't see?

There are various things that we can do to prevent that scenario, but I don't think it will be an issue until much further along in the life of the emu. Oh, be sure to note that I changed the patch date in my original post. It didn't take me long to get the latest client (as of right now) working so I figured I would give everyone another day to patch in case they haven't seen the post yet.

Quick question, and maybe it's a stupid one...but...
I don't have the RoK box set yet, but when I get it (probably the next two weeks or so)...am I still gonna be able to play on the emu? I mean, will the emu still work with the game out of the box? I'm just confused because you said you're updating to live, so does that mean that my version will be outdated?
Thanks in advance for your answer.

I will be unable to download the latest patch until Monday. Would it be possible to also describe the process required to get the latest patch to work with the emu or is it too complex?
Thanks

I am setting up the multi-version support so that all three versions (old one before RoK, RoK Box set, and RoK Live as of Sunday) will work with the emu. I actually already have it setup right now and I'll three versions work. Even got the Sarnak working in 4412 as well as live although you have to select the Warrior scale option for it to appear in 4412.

It isnt too complex, but if you arent familiar with the packets it can be frustrating :P I doubt anything major will change on Monday that will break the emu so you should be good. Just patch as soon as you can on Monday to be sure.

I'm not sure if the versions are different enough to make a difference, but I've seen two versions since this thread was posted.
Friday patch was 4521L
Saturday patch was 4523L
I'll try to check again on Sunday.

And server is updated (if needed) at 5 am GMT+1
