Skills

Post by LethalEncounter » Thu Aug 09, 2007 1:06 pm

If you didnt know it, we can actually create our own skills in the game. This is a really cool feature that I am sure will allow people to create some very unique servers. Are there any skills that arent in the game right now that anyone would like us to add to the baseline when it is released? I'm not very creative but I'm sure alot of you out there are :)
Example skill:

I cant think of anything at the specific moment, but Im sure that once we go public, we are going to see alot of cool things happen.
Hmm, Packet Deciphyering? Does that skill allow you to determin the contents of backpacks..... maybe.... lol.

Nice! Now the big question for me is can you change zone names. Any idea if this is possible?

Yea, you can change the name that the server sends to the client..

That is great! Somewhere down the line, EQEmulator stopped being able to do this and in my opinion this severely limited the ability to customize your own server. I was definately hoping that in EQ2EMU that function would return. As much as i love EQ2, i really want to be able to name my own cities im my world :P

aye, not only rename them but you can somewhat 'make' a new city. By changing the layout of zone points you can piece together a number of different zones to create a new city zone.

Nice find, it'll be nice integrating some new skills for complete server customization. Maybe we can implement a tool like KayotRo's DB Editor (Item / Skill creator)?
Off Topic: How about a level editing tool?
Shouldn't be a hard task once we understand the complete structure of zones, I mean S*E must have a 'level-editing' tool...
I.E. Hammer Editor for Half-Life 2...

maybe, but that is up to someone else that wishes to devote the time to such a task. I have my hands full with this project so that one is definately not in my hands :P
Best of luck to anyone that is able to attempt something like that. I doubt I would be up to a challenge like that. :)

Its amazing how much customizing can already happen with the emulator. We got Charcter Model Customization on a smaller level, Skill Manipulation and Creation, and even the posibility of changing zones/lines to create new content.
I can only imagine that more and more will be availble as time moves on. I only have one request, to LE. If you can, and if its not to much trouble, jot down a few notes on how these things work. They dont have to be pretty, but something to kidna point to what needs to be edited to make the changes. If you can get me a rough copy of the steps, or just eh spot to change them, I can write up some info on them and get it up in the wiki.
Could kinda go for everyone that is working on makeing this project, at least for the ones not interested in writing up details to make something happen. Just jot a few notes in notepad, attach it to a email with your screen name and send it to me. I will take care of the details and such.
