EQ2 Client popularity poll

We need to get an idea of which clients will be the most popular among our community of players for connecting to an EQ2Emulator server. Depending on the results of this on-going poll, we may tailor our efforts to suit the majority.

Even if that majority is "Current Live Client", there will always be some effort to preserve backwards compatibility. After all, our long-term goal here is to restore some of the original glory of the first EQII game we loved.

Please select up to 3 client choices you favor over all.

Thanks for participating.

The current steam client would be helpful since it doesn't update as often like live does provided that you don't update it once it's downloaded.

As I once posted about this, I would love to have only the original version with only split paw and bloodline chronicles :)

DoV is what I'll be using.

I have the DoV disc and the original version of EQ2 discs.

I'd prefer not to have to use any of the streaming clients or anything off steam if possible. I have no problem picking up a different set of discs if need be but boxed sets are the way to go (well for a classic server anyways, that's my main interest)

My 2 cents anyways.

My votes.

Sentinel's Fate - Since this can be purchased for $5 or less on disk.

Destiny of Velious - The last expansion available on disk, even if it is a bit overpriced.

Live - I missed backing up Chains of Eternity when it first went live. I wouldn't mind staying at Chains of Eternity if that is easier on the devs, but then we would need to be able to back patch from live.

I plan to run at the newest expansion level that the emulator supports. Even if I am not using all the zones, I would like to have the option of more zones to choose from.

We (husband and wife duo) have 2 copies of Original and DoV, and are using patched-up versions of DoV presently to connect here. We've both tried SOE's EQ 1 and EQ 2 "experiences" and do not like the "retail" server environments, especially now that they are F2P. We hope to see more happen here, and are eager to help test and grow support for this project.

Our Second Choice would be current client, ofc, but- would rather set the "standard" something lower/older than currect SOE servers, but which still includes such benefits as flying mounts, and house pets, and so on.

DoV was easy enough to find on eBay and even amazon, YMMV

Our 2 copper =)

Thanks

I'm going to have to break the mold and say Rise of Kunark. It's the only one here closest to the nostalgia I know that was once eq2. I started playing eq2 on 7/21/2007. I "grew up" on the classic content and never made a character outside of FP or Qeynos until like 2010 when I came back after a very long hiatus initiated by a fight with my guild, a thief who stole from them and the fact that I reached level 80 on my original character and got his epic weapon. I was burnt out.

I would also like to say that the original content was to say the least actually original and handcrafted, unlike the mass produced garbage that followed in 2008 onward.

Unfortunately I don't have the RoK disc or anything after that, but I do agree that was the last good expansion. Everything after that is garbage and the game turned to crap. Though for sake of being able to have easy access to the game I would prefer the current client. Seeing that we will be able to customize a lot of things, it does not matter that it's the live version.

You can find a lot of the boxed sets on amazon / ebay / etc and usually fairly cheap.

Some other emulators I've played on you can buy old game discs like 5 dollars or less. Of course the live version access codes are used up but you just need the discs for the files anyways.

I'd be happy with any boxed set as I think streaming / forever changing clients are a hassle for a person who plays a game occasionally.

Chasing the live client can work out good if a streamlined way to update files could be made so whenever you login to the emulated server it does a file check and updates as necessary. Or at the very least package the files that need to be changed so a person can install them prior to logging in.
