Love of EQ2 and Desire to Contribute

Hello,

I work as a Business Information Analyst (SAP guru) by day and program in my spare time. I used to enjoy playing the Strategy and MMO genre of games, but I feel that, for me, there isn't anything that could be developed that I would feel attached to the way I used to. Now, I RE game clients and write "Player Assistance" programs (C#). I've written an incomplete (abandoned) Game Engine (C++), completed portions including abstraction of Directx, memory management, task management, input, sound and collision.

I enjoy working with Databases, but my enjoyment starts once I have a completed implementation and my job is to extract and manipulate data. I know nothing of how a database is integrated with a server, but I would very much like to learn.

EQ and EQ2 were my favourite MMOs by far. I've been bored lately, so I searched around for EQ2 Private Servers and was shocked to learn there are none in a released state.

The only contributions I've made for a project like this was for Planeshift, however minor it was. Planeshift was, honestly, too daunting to get into at the time with my experience. This project seems less "from scratch" and so I believe I can help more here.

Take care, and thank you, John, for initiating and maintaining this project.

Hey, good to meet you. We could always use C++ (server) and C# (tools) help. Believe me when I say there is plenty here to do :)

Is any emulator really in a "released" state? The more you get to know our history, the more it will make sense why we're only about 50% of the way to the finish line, and just at the gate with Content.

Questions? We're eager to answer.

I've PMd you, John.

Please advise of what Tools are needed. I only see one, a Packet Analyser, in the ProjMan section, and it appears to be completed.

Haha, PacketAnalyzer (affectionately known as ANAL by the team) is nowhere near complete. The 1 task that was in there is Initial Design, which I laid out and Scatman + LethalEncounter built most of it. I do some UI work now and then. panbake is currently adding functionality, though I have not heard from him in a while.

I will add more tasks to ProjMan about PA soon as I get some free time. Meanwhile, there's an extensive list of Tools on my Wish List. Let me know if anything jumps out at you, but as I said in my PM, PacketAnalyzer is our #1 priority over other tools as far as what the team needs to rapidly develop client compatibility each patch day.

Welcome to the community, nice to see a programmer interested in helping out. If you jump into the server core and have any questions let me know and I will do my best to help.
