0.7.3 Planning

Just a rough draft of some things I'd like to see accomplished in the 0.7.3 cycle, which started basically on May 1, 2013 but since I was swamped with RL, we'll just call it Sep 1, 2013. I would like to spend the next month (Aug 2013) wrapping up loose ends in 0.7.2 so it can be released with confidence - and by this I merely mean data to support the added server features.

I'm tentatively scheduling 0.7.3 to run through either end of 2013, or Mar 2014, depending on how free Jabantiz becomes (or C++ savvy Foof feels :))

Things to finish off (by priority):
  • Immediate - By this, I mean we should finish these before starting yet another new system
    • (added) Resists - convert Emu from 7 resists to 3
    • Character History (is the core done?) In Progress
    • Group Combat \ Implied Target \ Spells In Progress
    • Instancing In Progress
    • Item Effects - things like clickies and procs (?)
    • Disco\POI rewards In Progress
    • (added) Heroic Opportunities - why haven't we done this yet? :oops:
  • Critical - Stuff that's been lingering, and should be finalized
    • Guild Recruiting - client display and photo
    • Collecting (harvest loot window)
    • Housing (access) In Progress
    • (from 0.7.2) Combat \ Damage In Progress
    • (from 0.7.2) Pet's \ Charmed and UI In Progress (I think this is done?)
  • Medium - "nice to have's"
    • Get the Achievement MasterList to load faster
    • Achievements - storage in Char History tables
    • Character Development \ Heroic, Prestige, Tradeskill, Tradeskill Prestige
    • Mail Items (and coin?)
    • Tradeskills - Respec
    • (from 0.7.2) Food \ Consumption and stats In Progress (does this work now?)
    • (from 0.7.2) Pet's \ Hide non-combat In Progress (I think this is done?)
  • Low - Stuff that will continue to slide ;)
    • Achievements - UI links, Progress counters, Summary pages

Content:
I have added the other 3 starter zones to ProjMan assigned to KhaineGB and Scatman according to their interest. I would like a realistic estimate of how long this will take. I know theFoof took 6 mos so far, but he was a) learning how to do this on his own, b) waiting for or developing server core functionality along the way, and c) isn't glued to the computer 24x7 :D I am hoping now that he has "a style" to do content, we can push entire zones out a little quicker than 1 every 6 mos. This is what I need an estimated feel from you on. Can it be done?


Note: Notice I do not have "new stuff" on this list. I'd like to try avoiding starting new features until we finish the old ones. I say this repeatedly, but I understand burnout and RL... so all I can ask is try to stay on task til it's done. In this, I mean to avoid new CoE or GU features that just hit us in the back side, unless they somehow effect core functionality.


This is your opportunity to discuss this with me so I know what to expect, or what your interests are. Please do not agree to this task list then go off the rails on something else :mrgreen:

Going by the fact it's taken approx 2 hours to do 1/3rd of Darklight Wood for groundspawns... I reckon 3-6 months is probably a reasonable estimate for me to get it done.

I'm also still learning and on a different time zone to everyone else, so I'm being very conservative with my estimate. I'm really, really hoping I can get it done in the 3 months, if not less.

The ui should work in the 1096 client. I have not figure out how to get the power and health bars to update properly in CoE clients however.

This should be possible with the current lua functions.

This should work, only tested locally on my end though as far as I know.

This is done, there are lua functions to summon them and get pointers to them.

I remember doing some work on this for disco/poi, I think there is a solid core but probably needs to be expanded.

Clickies should be possible with item scripts, there is no support for procs though.

I think instancing is probably the most important thing to get working properly now. I would also like to suggest the loot system work be done as well as inventory overflow.

Yeah most zones will be quicker, although maybe not the zones we currently have on the agenda. Something to keep in mind with a zone like Frostfang, besides being huge to populate, it has over 90 quests. The vast majority of zones in the game don't have near this many quests until you get to the Kunark areas.

So what I'm saying is it's very hard to give an estimate on how long content takes because zones vary so much on the amount of content :P, but most zones will not take nearly as long as the early starter zones.

Jab, no Access that spawns a housing instance is all we need to start with. I know there's a lot of UI/DB components yet to add, we can hit those later (0.7.3+ if we have time). The only Housing thing I had considered was a demo house zone with stuff in it for folks to see. It could just be a static zone for now, unless we get bored and want to add housing item storage/placement.


Foof, I hope you didn't read my statement as you are slow lol... You kicked it's ass, because you had to "invent" how it was done. Frostfang was also from scratch, with NOTHING written for it... including code.

What I mean by faster, as you said, other zones may not have as many scripts... and the other 3 starter zones have a ton of work already done that hopefully only has minor changes and maybe a few new quest (lines).

What I'm considering doing (with your blessing, of course) is at least popping the zones and getting them cleaned up so YOU (and Content) do not have to waste time doing menial labor. Do you think that would be helpful, or harmful because you'd rather have control over what YOU need?

Jab, do you want to handle Instancing when you find time, or shall I continue poking around and trying things? I probably can't master it alone, but I can get some of it done. I committed the switch() because it didn't hurt anything :)
