Hello!

Hello, my name is Dudeius Caesar, Taurus, my likes and dislikes are...lol just kidding :P

I was wondering if there was an established and active testing team? If so I would like to be a part, if not I would be glad to put together a team immediately. Also, I have been unsuccessful in finding a thread on proper use of the bug tool. Is there a preferred method of reporting bugs using the tool/forum or both? Is there a proper syntax I should follow? Where should I place relative logs? Is there a current "Needs Testing" list? If you do not have a current testing list for the population, you can submit any and all content changes to me and I would be happy to compile and assign all content a test priority in descending order. :)

I've spent years working on the DAoC Dawn of Light project and was directly involved in developing their Storm servers. However, I am not willing to just hop into assisting in development right away as I simply do not have the time because of other projects... I have experience in C++, C#, and LUA. I served as a "liaison" between the playerbase and dev-teams working on the "DoL : Storm" project during this time. There is always considerable friction between developmental milestones and the perceived broken game-play functions encountered by players(which is enough to cripple your traffic). A few of my responsibilities were dissolving bug lists, assigning bug and testing priorities, debugging new content, organizing events both for fun and stress, and generally polarizing the player population along side the development staff to reduce said friction while striking a balance on which both parties can establish a working dialogue. There was an intense need to stabilize the current population numbers and attract more attention to the project at the time, this job was also delegated to me. Since SOE has developed a deleterious attitude toward EQ2... There exists little to no possibility for a classic/progression server despite the rapidly growing population of players which wish to recapture that style of game-play(forced interactivity, mandatory grouping, less travel options, etc.). Because of this attitude, EQ2Emu project could have utter domination over the current Live servers because of its ability to provide these hopeless nostalgic romantics(Im one of those as well  ) with a viable option. The only hindrance currently is the actual lack of manpower available to augment your team. I would like to try to steer some traffic towards this project VIA message boards etc. From what I can tell this project is fairly unknown to most of the MMO population

I have participated in most triple-A MMORPG Alpha and Open/Closed Betas over the past decade. I take bug testing seriously, a bit too seriously sometimes, as it can be expensive to the developers to have to sift through an asinine amount of poor quality reports just to find a needle in a haystack which still may not properly describe the broken function. With all that being said  I would like to assist(for the time being) in anyway I can outside of actual development. Once I can login to the server(hopefully with a list of content to test xD) ill be spending hours replicating and documenting any and all bugs I encounter.

I apologize if this was a bit straight to the point or there are typos... Its 2:00am and I've had to retype this due to my browser crashing...Trying to not pass out in this chair xD

Much obliged!

Welcome to our small community.

I always loved DAoC, even played on the storm server for a few months when it had first launched and had a blast, but in the end I enjoy EQ2 more so here I am. I too miss the old EQ2 but from more around the kunark era, and I agree with a classic/progression server we could probably have a thriving community, sadly very few are willing to step forward and help us get there so our progress is slow at times but we are always here making progress.

Now to answer your questions
DudeiusCaesar wrote:I was wondering if there was an established and active testing team? If so I would like to be a part, if not I would be glad to put together a team immediately.
There is no testing team currently, mainly due to the lack of players we have.
DudeiusCaesar wrote:Also, I have been unsuccessful in finding a thread on proper use of the bug tool. Is there a preferred method of reporting bugs using the tool/forum or both? Is there a proper syntax I should follow? Where should I place relative logs?
Best way to report a bug while playing on one of our servers is to /bug in game and it will go to our bug tracker (link on the top right), from there a Dev can move them to our bug forums, add notes, and change the status. If you are running your own server and have a crash/bug to report you can just make a new thread in the appropriate forum and attach any relevant logs there.
DudeiusCaesar wrote:Is there a current "Needs Testing" list? If you do not have a current testing list for the population, you can submit any and all content changes to me and I would be happy to compile and assign all content a test priority in descending order. :)
There are several server features we have asked to have focused testing on but again due to the practically non existent player population they never really got done, off the top of my head is trade skills, instances, and pets, I am sure there are others I have forgotten about though.
DudeiusCaesar wrote:However, I am not willing to just hop into assisting in development right away as I simply do not have the time because of other projects...
That is fine, we can always use testers cause lets face it us devs suck at testing our own code

Currently we only have about 3 people working on content, our main focus currently, and it is slow going. If you were able to manage to boost the traffic here, and manage to grow our team, we would be in your debt.

As far as content goes we have 1 "finished" zone and that is frost fang sea, we are working on others but again it is slow going due to our size, we also have most spells from 1-20 on all classes, they are still being tweaked by one of our team members though.

Welcome Dudeius! I thought your name sounded familiar, DAoC Storm you say? Just so happens i also played on that server, but i remember dieing outside a castle and was continually killed by players while "sight-seeing" lol.

That would be me. Altho "tweaked" is such a generous word to use lol.
DudeiusCaesar wrote:I would be glad to put together a team immediately.
If John can allow me, with no C++, C# or LUA experience to have a go at adding and fixing spells im sure John would be overjoyed for more experienced people helping out!

So welcome to EQ2 Emu and i hope to see you and your friends sticking around :)

[EDIT] You might want to wait until john sees this post because we have done a lot of work since the last 1.6 release so it might be better for testing if you were able to get on the dev server.

Dev server is mostly for actual development, but I do have the ability to flag accounts for that server, so I can set him up if he wants on that server.

Good point, we can add testers to the dev server

I can simply open the Dev server to the public, thus slowly making our way towards combining then into one single Test server. Let me know if this works for you.

Fine by me as well.

Testing on the most up to date server is the best way to do things

Sweet! Thanks for all the replies, I am guessing the dev server is open now as I am eager to get to whacking away at some serious buggage!

As for steering traffic towards this project, most of the actual playerbase will come along with progression of playability. For now steering general traffic towards the site itself and providing a general awareness in various communities should provide at least a few stragglers that will hang around and are willing to assist, even on a limited basis.

Ill get to work tomorrow night around 6:30pm-8:00pm Eastern if anyone who has been stalking the forums, just browsing around and the like would care to assist(if the dev server is open). I do not expect any real turnout for producing a time though. I do find it best to go ahead and establish communal gathering times even for testing purposes as this is one of the few manner in which we can begin growing the playerbase... If you have the client and are capable of hopping ingame I urge folk to go ahead and give it a try. Your time would be greatly appreciated, even if its just to poke around a bit.

Once again, Much Obliged!

GMT -5? I think we need more UK people :p i seem to be the only one lol.

[EDIT] Oh, while your testing, melee aoe's hit the player if you have yourself targeted (they work normally if you have no target or if you target an enemy) but if you have a mage or something and you see an aoe that works (ie wont hit the player when targeting yourself) could you please send me a pm with the name and class? it will help me debug the aoe problem iv been having, if not its fine, i will get round to the other classes at some point :p

I'm going to try and fine me a uk tester i think, iv tested alot of the content iv added but without the ability to group and test something might have slipped by.

Hey Guys, sorry I wasnt able to hop on at the specified time.. Lol took my daughter to Chuckie Cheese's for the first time, poor child cried when she saw the robotic band playing music. She got used to it and began to love the show lol.... and the games  ... Then really loved it when she got some pizza then Dad won her 1500 tickets with 80 tokens(was a part of a coupon deal) which she promptly recieved 2 stuffed animals, candy, and a mini-soccer ball.

Uhh, so ive been struggling with getting the client running entirely, perhaps ive just been a complete idiot and overlooked something so obvious.

Options Error : The options definition file failed to load. This generally indicated that your patch was corrupted for some reason. Try a complete scan, and if that doesnt help then you may need to reinstall.

Could this just be me being stupid and not running the game once before connecting?

Are you trying to install a specific patch or live client? If you are doing live client make sure it is not the streaming client.

Well i am using the streaming client, I was attempting to try a few things to make it at least somewhat compatible. I have failed and had a bout of furious rage(for 2 seconds, really didnt bother me any rofl).

I thought there was a way to change a streaming client to a full but can't remember off hand. Might be a setting in the launcher, if not you may need to down load the full client launcher and install over your current install and it will dl what ever you don't have, will get a link to the full launcher dl and look up how to convert streaming to full.
