Extended Outages

To anyone who knows how to read:

I am anticipating, though hoping to avoid, extended periods of down time in the next 2 weeks. I am having major construction done at the EQ2 Command Center (aka, my house) which will likely require periods of power and/or internet service outages.

I'll do what I can to keep it to a minimum, but if you get a Page Not Found anytime between Fri Sep 18 and Fri Sep 25 2015, do not panic. We'll be back.

There will be another period of outages as the roof is being torn off my home to replace it with a spiffy new one, but that will happen sometime mid-October. I'll warn you about that one, too.

As always, thanks for your patience.

Dang! I was off by a week on my vacation. I will be back in two days. That's OK though I have to collect some packets for Jabantiz, and then off to work when I get back.

Just a heads up; I will be bringing everything down over this coming weekend to perform much needed maintenance, upgrades, and restructuring of my internal network, as well as separating the game server databases from the webserver database. Hopefully this will improve performance, and will not be down for more than a few hours, if that.

As I posted on the FB Page, the Oct 2 outage did not occur due to scheduling issues, so this weekend (Oct 10 - 11) should be when I get the network moved over. Same as before, shouldn't take long, but be aware.

Thanks for the patience during that 4 hour outage! The web services are the first to come back up, though I have many things to reconfigure still - so some of the Portal modules may not function right away (I split the MySQL Databases as part of the updates).

I will get VGOEmulator running first (sorry, EQ2Emu, but you wanted a new server so I am still building it :)) so Launcher, New Telon and Targonor should be alive shortly.

Still, there may be moments of disconnect throughout the remainder of this weekend as I update and reboot stuff.

Thanks for the update John.

Also big thanks for even hosting these servers, and going even further and building a new one for us.

I believe we here at EQ2Emu will not have any problems waiting.

Thanks, Cynnar. While I work on the new boxes, I put the old one back online (I didn't want the huge line of anxious players to be sad) so what you have for now is still the old shoddy Linux box, but your database is on a shiny new machine :)

I'm gathering all the requirements from the old system before switching, so I am not forgetting anything. I forgot how much automation and shit I have on EQ2Emu, being the oldest of my emulators :shock:

Since your server looks idle, I am taking it down (maybe for the entire evening) to transfer all the configs and data to the new Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS box. It might take a while, since I have a lot of stuff automated on this machine, but I was smart enough to keep it all in one place (I think...)

If I cannot get the new machine running by tomorrow, I'll put the old services back online.

This outage affects Login, Patch and World Servers as well as both EQ2DB Editors and the UbrUploader (logs)

EQ2Emulator services are restored, and running on the new Linux x64 machine. The DB Editor should also be working, but someone will have to test updating data and editing/creating new Lua scripts.

Jabantiz, I had to change the linux makefiles a little due to the x64 chipset now, and while everything compiles and runs fine, I'm seeing 2 echoes at the end of World startup:

Code: Select all

Error in my_thread_global_end(): 2 threads didn't exit
Error in my_thread_global_end(): 2 threads didn't exit
From a quick search, I found this article which leads me to believe your threaded loading is now reporting how naughty you were for not cleaning up your threads ;)

Note that you are now compiling with new versions of C, too... compatible with the c++11 standards.
gcc (Ubuntu 4.8.4-2ubuntu1~14.04) 4.8.4
g++ (Ubuntu 4.8.4-2ubuntu1~14.04) 4.8.4
I'll check back throughout the weekend to ensure there are no problems.

John I have added two new spawn scripts, and then made an edit to both of them without any problems. Confirmed that they were working in game as well.

It may be a placebo effect but I swear the load time was shorter, and reloading spawns is lightning fast.

Cool beans. The speed up might be thanks to EQ2Emulator *finally* running on x64 :)

All,

We're on the opposite end of the renovations here, meaning they are almost complete (!!!) so there will likely be periodic outages that will affect all services here (web, servers, irc, svn). I have massive amounts of (re)cabling to do so we can close the walls this weekend.

If you visit this site and get a 404, that's what's up. Don't panic. It's just me hoping to get wires off my floors for the first time since I moved into this house (6 years).
