Very nice!

I keep checking here once a month for updates. Looking at running a server now I have a decent host that isn't my home internet connection.

You might be waiting a while. I am a notorious slacker. ;)

Plus I need to talk to my host to ensure I have the requirements to run it. Thankfully one of the guys running the company is a friend.

Hi josh.
As with any emulator project, it will never be 100% "done", unless the published came (in this case, Everquest 2) no longer exists. Because the publisher continues to put out content and features, emulators continue to grow with them.

For you, the good news about these open source projects, you can pretty much do anything you want to them yourself. You can restrict zones, rulesets, etc. You can even customize code if you're ambitious enough. So your desired PVP ruleset could be achieved.

Creating a custom world is an enormous task, it takes hundreds of hours of time and creative thinking, which is why there are never very many servers here to play on. Maybe someday, when the emulator is more "playable", like the EQEmu server. It's always been a dream of mine to see us have a server list like EQEmu :)

Hi John,

Infact i like the idea of having 1 server and get it populated. Based on my experience: in 2007 the pvp rules were awesome. My wish is to see a server with rules like :

-make leveling much harder s othat peolpe wont lose their goal.
- steal title / lose infarmy
-shard recovery loss of experience
- pvp avail in cities without any rules, but maybe more guards to make it challenging. pvp avail in inns and homes ? ( i know thats evil )
- possibly lose a piece of gear when lost in pvp
- make pvp a goal so that people are motivate to pve for experience and gear. and raids to be able to win in pvp
- make the game more solo based
- keep the xpacks minimal, as more zones causes population to scatter
- Maybe an start with zones introduced in 2004 at the very intro of game and keep it that way for a while so that people experience their old memories
like when my pa was a alive and he used to ask me to get on the game and play the track in common lands.
- dedicated GMs to prevent exploits and speed hacking

how close are we to an emulator server to go live?

I would say thousands, tens of thousands probably. And with the size of EQ2 and that the code base still has a way to go, plus the content has even further to go....hundreds of thousands. But some of us are insane or bored enough to try.
