Massive Outage - 8/27 - 8/28 2016

I have lived in Phoenix, AZ now for 27 years... you hear the cliche's, it's a dry heat, there is no weather in Phoenix, etc. But, when there is weather - holy shit. Last night, around 10pm or so, a massive storm landed on my house and knocked out power as far as the eye can see (and that's pretty far considering I live atop a hill overlooking the city).

Never seen anything like it before. Then the rain came. And the wind. And the lightning and her minions. It was spectacular. I was certain the new roof I just put on this place was going to come off :)

Anyway, that's why you lost everything for 15 hours. Services are slowly coming back online. My poor NAS is moaning under the strain of powering on (and updating) over 40 VMs it serves, so it might take a while for performance to return.

It's times like these I wish I didn't host so many services, because 1/2 my day now will be spent restoring them

WOW! Glad you are ok.
Guess you done a good job on that new roof. :) If it can stand that torture then you shouldn't have to worry about it for a long time.

No worries on the complaining box on this end. We will be here when everything gets back to normal.

Thanks for the update btw.

Probably within a year or two, I will be getting a whole house generator for just this type of situation.

:)

I have a half house generator that just back feeds the house when the power goes out. So the incoming power circuit breaker trips when power goes out and then the generator turns on. Only issue is if the power comes back I have to manually reset everything but it really isn't much of an issue.

Other projects I do that are semi off-grid are a cistern/ac condensation/dehumidifier watering system for a vertical garden.
( great year for cucumbers and basil). I haven't had to manually water much this year.

You are safe and this is the most important thing ;)
Hope you don't have too much damage on your house.

Hello alfa, you beautiful Frenchman!

No house damage, I have spent quite a bit the last year ensuring there are no more floods or leaky roof!
