Trying to connect with patched client

Hello,

I have a current client (read that it works right now) and ran the emu patcher, which worked with no errors. When I launched Everquest2.exe, I did get about half a dozen DLL errors, which I was able to pull copies of from the EQ1 directory. Not sure why I didn't have them, even in a working EQ2 live client. Anyway, now I have hit another roadblock. After launching, I get an error:

"The options definition file failed to load. This generally indicates that your patch was corrupted for some reason. Try a complete scan, and if that doesn't help then you may need to reinstall."

Any ideas?

Did you check out the wiki for using the live client?

http://www.eq2emulator.net/wiki/index.p ... ive_Client

Should get you much closer? If not check out our discord chat if you do that sort of thing. More live help there.

Yep, that's the guide I followed. I've been running and keeping up with a local EQ1 emu server for like 10 years, so I'm not new to this stuff. I'll pop on the discord in the next couple days and see if anyone has any ideas. Thanks!

You should not be running the patcher on live client. It is probably why you are getting errors. Patcher replaces your exe file and is really only used for DoV boxset. Try a fresh copy of live (providing it's still supported) then just edit the eq2_default.ini to point to eq2emulator.net or your local host if you are running one.

Makes total sense. Will give it a shot tomorrow, bedtime for me. Thanks! :D

Aaaaand I'm in! Used current live patch, just changed .ini to point to eq2emulator.net login server, profit! I chose Neriak, but it started me in Frostfang Sea. No biggy! It retained all the character visual customizations I set. I'm looking an an NPC tho, which I didn't expect! I didn't think the world was at all populated yet.

Do we have current build instructions for the server? I built one.. I think in 2015 lol. So it's obviously outdated and I don't know where I even saved the source code to.

This is awesome though!! :-D

Currently the server is set to send everyone to Frostfang because that is the only playable zone we have currently.

Our wiki had a compile guide for Linux and windows.

We preformed a mass pop, thanks to John Adams for doing that, so world is populated. However there is still a lot of clean up and scripting to be done for the world.

That's amazing! Ok, I'm going to give another go at a server compile. Thanks for the quick responses! :-D

Ok, so I finally got around to actually starting to set this up again a little while ago. Turns out, my Win10 server installation I was using got horribly corrupt somehow and couldn't take any updates or update any drivers, so I finally bit the bullet and clean slated it. Now back up and running again, and my EQ1 Emu is back up and in action. Starting to work through the EQ2 Emu installation process. Figured I would start from scratch since the local I created was at least 2 years out of date and I hadn't really done anything with it. I wasn't using Minilogin at the time, but starting down that route this time at least initially. Few questions - should the DB created/referenced by Minilogin be the same DB if I plan on wanting to flip/flop between Minilogin and eq2emulator.net login? I ran the script that came with Minilogin and it created a totally separate database eq2ls, but I'm not sure if that was meant to be standalone or even used if I plan on flip/flopping.

(it looks like the Minilogin script created an entire EQ2 Emu database and not just Minilogin-related)

It's fine for it to live in a separate database.

You may need some table updates or something though. I recently had to set up Minilogin locally myself and had to tinker with a few things to get it up to date with the live client.

Minilogin will only be used if you're not connecting to the official login server.

One thing to note is that the login server does keep track of the characters you've created, so if you are flip/flopping between Minilogin and the official server, there's a good chance you'll end up out of sync with what characters the official server thinks you have and what characters Minilogin thinks you have.
