Is there a server that does the early days of Eq2? up to PoF or expac after that?

Currently no.
It is possible just will take a lot of work.

I just bought a box copy of every client up from Classic up to SF.
I'll give the Classic structs a go.

I had a login working for the original box it was getting into the world that was killing me, it would just get stuck on loading and none of the crash logs had anything on why like they do these days.
That said an RoK client, which should work mostly, has pretty much the same level geo as the classic client so that could be used. The major thing is the content, even with live to copy from and make it go quicker it still takes forever to make the content for this project.

bummer, was hoping for early Eq2, for me the first 2 years of Eq2 was the "Golden Years", enough grind to keep u busy but not so much that it became tiresome.

I agree with what Jab said, RoK is the best bet and I believe there are already working login and world servers somewhere around here. I got them working before but they had some odd issues, still worked though.
The biggest graphical changes to zones to date that cannot be reversed TSO and onward (for running say, a classic server) are the addition of the guild halls in Antonica and CL and the updated cities seen from outside/outer walls etc. But even to this very day the game client still contains all old unused zones (original Qeynos and Freeport zones pre-facelift).
Of course we know the hamlet towns still exist too because they're reused graphically as quest instances. Lots of misc. small instance zones that were used for old questlines back in the day are either reused today or not at all but alas still exist in the client.
Like others have said it can be done but it's hard and would take forever.

ROK arrived. My DoF box arrived as well, but I need Classic box first. It's en route.

RoK crashes when logging into a server.
Tested it on both my source and the official EQ2Emu server.
I'll probably look into it some at some point, just fyi. Shouldn't be too crazy to figure out.

Hmm we had that problem in the past but I fixed it, I wonder if some code got reverted. In the past it was the bad word filter being sent, i don't think that packet existed in RoK, at least it was never sent at the login level.

Yeah, this is only happening when connecting to a world server.
It makes it through the login server just fine, although I didn't test creating a character or anything like that.

So, the TSO box set (which is ROK still, but late ROK, you would have patched after buying it) can log in to game completely.
There are some char sheet issues at least, not sure what else.

FYI, a while back I did test every "box set" client I have stored on SVN and had the same issues with ROK. One idea (as bad an idea as it may seem) would be to roll the code back to a time when ROK was working, and diff the structs, maybe.
The EQ2ClientPatcher tool also used to work for patching the box set to the working Everquest2.exe, though I cannot promise that patch tool even works anymore, it's so ancient.

Well, late ROK works, which is the TSO client.
What I would probably do is use that struct as a starting base and compare it against whatever we currently have for the early ROK client version.
