So using only the original EQ2 game disks can you make a server without any expansions? Seems like this would be the easiest route to take, because you have less content to work with.

This is one of the hardest routes.

First we would need to figure out the opcodes and packet structs and we have no packet logs from that time to do it so it would really just be a bunch of guess work until we figure it out.

Second content is what we send so just by using the classic client doesn't mean we will have classic content. Any classic type content will have to be remade from hand and as there is no reference to use it won't be accurate.

Using live content we can dev faster and more accurate as we have a source to check against, this content can then be used as a base to try and recreate a classic server. We can also lock zones to prevent people from going outside of whatever expansion we want. Even just working on the shattered lands zones like we are the amount of content is massive and we only have a handful of people working on it so it takes a long time to produce anything.

Jab is correct it is not easy, although i have one zone almost complete on Perseverance

start as a level one commoner, select your class (mage, priest, fighter, scout) on island
many of the quests are done , but it only due to having logs from way back then for the dialog

i havent been able to do much lately but am hoping to get more done now

WARTS anyone??
