Hello everyone, old time eq2 player here (2005-2012). Logged thousands of hours back then and really fell in love with the game. I loved questing and raiding the most. A lot has changed since and i don't enjoy playing live anymore. I'd like to use my in-game experience gathered over the years to help out the project and to also sharpen my programming skills which aren't very sharp at the moment.

Welcome to our forums.
We are always looking for more content devs to help us recreate the world. We are however copying live though as we can verify data and use census for some stuff to help reduce the time it takes but even then it is a slow process. Our goal is to get a solid base that others can then use as a starting point to make more classic servers.
Content dev consists of running around in game and using commands to clean up zones, an editor to add the fine touches to spawns in zones, and LUA scripting to bring every thing to life.
If you are interested then send me or Cynnar a pm and we can get you started.

Hi vo1d, welcome to the project
As Jab says the project is using Live as the mold, but since everything takes such a long time we are still working on the early content - so plenty of 'classic' feel to be had. Your experience with the early years of the game would be valuable to the team, and if you have logs from the very early years, those would be interesting too.

Appreciate all the replies, it's nice to meet all of you.
Jabantiz, Sounds great! I like that approach and i don't mind logging back into live to help gather additional data. I am interested in helping with content development and maybe learning more about how the Emulator works under the hood, I'd like to understand it better. I'll be in contact via pm soon
Rylec, Looking forward to getting a bit of that 'classic' feel again! I hadn't thought about what logs i might have backed up from back then. I am going to take a look at what i have, I'll be glad to share it if i find anything.
neatz09, Thank you

Welcome to the forums, and welcome to the team. As usual I'm late to the party. It's a tough gig but someone has to be late.
Any older data you have could be very helpful in recreating that old missing content. We are always on the lookout for that older content.
Like Jabantiz said, we use live as we can verify this data, however if you recall something on that older data don't hesitate to talk to any one of us about it. We can make a new thread, add to the zones thread if it exist, and eventually add to the content.

Thanks Cynnar , at least you made it to the party!
It will likely take some time but i will be going through all of my old hard drives in search for those logs.
I just got live installed into folder right below my EQ2Emu folder after what Jabantiz said.
neatz09 gave me a very informative tour (scare test

) yesterday. I feel like other than getting a few perms setup and learning how to use one of the parsers for live, I'm ready to start creating/fixing quests.
Just for some clarity, My plan for right now is to start at the Outpost of the Overlord. I have followed the quest line up to "Disruption for Distraction" where i encountered an issue. This is what i will use as my starting point. My goal is to work step by step from here to finish the quest line on the outpost. From there i will be using
EQ2Wiki Soloing Timeline with a preference to classic.

Just a note about the freeport suburbs if you eventually end up there.
We have tried to set them up but they are basically a mess because when they did a revamp of freeport they actually changed and overwrote the suburbs with the new versions. We did our best to set some stuff up but there are things we just can't fix like the entire inside of a building missing.
I am not sure why they did that as the revamped qeynos suburbs are actually new files and sit next to the old versions so we can use both in qeynos. Basically freeport just got screwed in this case.
The city zones itself both version exist side by side so both old and new freeport zones can be used, just the suburbs for some reason.

I did find that you can get those zones vpk from older clients and use in the AoM and up. I believe mine was the vpk files from DoV.

Yea you could do that but in the end we can't have both side by side like we do in qeynos unless we figure out how to modify the asset lib so the client doesn't reject it. But even then the main issue would then be distributing the files and the whole legal crap that brings up.
