What I see is the most recent client supported is Destiny of Velious, but I'm striking out finding it, legit or less so. Well, except for the one on EBay for $180.

You can actually grab the client from steam which is AoM and will work with the emulator.

Ah thanks Jabantiz, much appreciated.

This is from the setup guide on the wiki:
You can get a copy of the live client form the EverQuest II website. Once you have downloaded the client you need to make sure you change over to the full client from the streaming version. This is accomplished by going into the advanced tools tab aka settings tab. In the advanced settings menu choose the Select Game Version option. Beside the Full Download make sure the box is checked. This will re-download your client install. It is something like 16GB. There is an attached image for a reference.
I can find that setting, but the only options are US English, EU English, Public Beta, and Test. There is no full download version listed.

Live clients no longer work with the emulator. Also I believe they did away with the streaming client.
Your best option is go to
steam and download the client they have listed.

That's what I did, and I was following the wiki guide saying how to set up that client at
https://eq2emulator.net/wiki/index.php/ ... ive_Client.
So the Steam version is considered the full client and not a streaming version? I wasn't sure if it streamed more stuff when you played. If that's the case I guess I just need to edit the .ini file, off to try that (I already created a server account).

yea steam will download a complete client for you, make sure not to run the launcher (eq2.exe) at all as that will start to patch and break it for the emulator.
once the dl is complete you just need to either change the ini or use the launcher made by us.

Actually I found your launcher and I thought I set it up correctly, but when I launch it says login rejected, my client version does not match the server version and it tells me to re-run the patcher. No idea what I need to do now.

This comment makes me believe you opened the launcher for live. If that is the case, even if you closed it before the patch finished, it is likely the eqverquest2.exe got replaced along with other files and thus causing the steam client to no longer work with the emulator.
I am not sure if you can revert the client through steam but it is likely you will need to delete it and download it again to revert the patch.

Yes I did connect to live, sigh,I thought I needed to to change that setting. Ok I'll assume I need to uninstall and reinstall and not let it connect to live. Thanks for the continued help, Jabantiz.

NP. By any chance could you link the wiki page you were using so I can put a note up or something that live client no longer works.

Yay I am in! Much easier than all the documentation on the site implies, just download from Steam and set up Jabantiz' launcher and off you go.
I now have an actual gameplay question- I remember being a human Paladin starting in Freeport, but in the character creation it seems to want to put me at Halas, I've clicked all over the map and I don't seem to get any other choices. What races/classes start at Freeport?

One that has confusing information considering the ease of the real path (download steam client, do nothing else with client, create accounts, configure your launcher, go) is here:
https://eq2emulator.net/wiki/index.php/ ... ive_Client
This one also sent me down a wrong path of editing the .ini file myself:
https://eq2emulator.net/wiki/index.php/ ... To_Connect
This is just mostly confusing:
https://eq2emulator.net/wiki/index.php/ ... AoM_Client
All of those should be replaced with the very simple steps of downloading the Steam client and then configuring the launcher.
https://eq2emulator.net/wiki/index.php/ ... u_Launcher - that's the info that actually got me online.
