Comatose NPCs

Post by John Adams » Sat May 10, 2008 4:42 pm

LE, once upon a time, and I mean long ago (last Oct/Nov?) I could spawn an NPC, and once I targeted said NPC, he would turn his head and look at me. If I moved, his head would turn to seek me out, unless I got out of his field of view. I know this for a fact because I had some screen shots of 12 spawned dragons all staring at me. Creeped me out.
Anyway, now any NPCs I spawn seem to stare blankly into space. Do you have any idea why this might be? Can they not really see me anymore, perhaps?
Something that I think might be different, before I could move through the center of an NPC. Now I cannot. I seem to recall that they would start looking at me once I got inside or passed through them (I think). Can't really remember.

They all went blind.
No, really it was probably one of the fields that I had hard coded at the time. Could you give me the date of the screenshot? I could use that to go back and see what fields I had hardcoded at the time and narrow it down.

Sorry for bringing back an old subject but I am curious about this too and it seems it still hasn't been resolved in any way even after all this time.

This one has been laid to rest. NPCs are once again paying attention to you and not being little snobs.

Thank you, LE! Wittling away at 1.0 one enhancement at a time!

Cool :) Sometimes it's the little things like that, that make the emu seem so much like live. Thanks LE!

An interesting side-effect of having "duplicate spawns" (those standing in the exact same spot). The head-turn does not work when there are 2 NPCs stacked. That is very interesting, and definitely helps ID which spawn locations are duped :)

I'll bet LE planned it that way.

I have one small issue with this feature now. In Live, when you click on a target, that is the direction your characters head will face - regardless of who is closer. In testing between Scatman and Zcoretri just now, I can stand closer to Zco's char, but still within inches of Scat, and click between the two but my head stays on Zcoretri (he is far prettier than Scatman, believe me).

Can you get it to override to face whomever you are targetting? This may hold true for NPCs that "target" players too who walk up and Hail, for instance, though may be covered enough by the FaceTarget() function.

Hmm, that might be a little difficult, but I'll look into it when I get some time.
