CPU and GPU

Post by Arremis » Mon Jun 09, 2008 8:31 am

I was just curious...
Currently, the EQ2 game engine is very CPU intensive. Is it possible for the Emu to unload some of the processing (specifically most of the graphics processing) onto the GPU?

My EQ2World.exe is not very CPU intensive. It actually runs very lean for pre-alpha code.

John, are you saying that the lag from Live is server related?

the lag people experience from live is mostly due to their pc's not being able to handle the zone correctly (points to neriak)

Actually, if some of you boys read what you actually wrote you'd realize how vague and wrong that information is
First of all I think that the original poster is referring to the EverQuest 2 game engine which is the render system... You can tone down certain features (Which the client handles) such as Shaders, Effects and overall graphics quality to make it run smoother. I wouldn't really call it CPU-Intensive.
From a server's point of view, you can help the client by not including as many entities as there are in live...try running through an empty world with your settings on HIGHEST QUALITY (Which they state no computer in the world should handle smoothly) and watch it work perfectly as it did on mine (Or it might not, depending on your hardware).

My response was clear and concise regarding the world server exe not having a f**king thing to do with a GPU. If your machine is assy and cannot handle "entities", get a new one. :)
Is that more accurate?

My g/f calls me "Tony Soprano"...
Not because I am fat.
Because I need therapy.
