EQ2 rendering system

Post by 3ShirtlessMen » Sun Jun 22, 2008 7:39 pm

I'm sorry if this is not the right area to post in - I will move if need-be.
I write HLSL shaders, and I am quite interested why my 8800GT cannot pull off EQ2 on nearly anything above "Balanced".
My 8800GT is oced, and I have a C2D @ 3.2GHZ, 2 gigs of ram .. etc .. I can run Crysis maxed but not EQ2?
Anyways, so I was wondering if anyone has managed to unpack the files >> find the shader code >> repack it and be able to log back into LIVE servers.
I know the above question is pretty rough - a simple 'no' would be great if not. I have done my fair share of searching and I found an UNPACKER but not a REPACKER - esp for live servers.
I want to see if I can optimize the shader code since, there should NOT be such terrible lag. I assume EQ2 uses DX, if not, I'll just convert to CG / GLSL, not a biggie.
Thanks! ;)

I use a 7800 nvidia and have absulutley no problem with shaders/graphics, i can run raids in extreme, as well as record raids.. it may just be an incompatibility with your gpu..
but lag is a bigger question..
either memory or internet connection. but i Hvae 2 gigs on my gaming machine so your 2 shouldnt be a problem..

Yes, extreme (or even just high) is around 15 fps. I've tried different drivers, which many cause BSOD in EQ2.
Thanks for the response though! However, it doesn't answer my question - can I re-write the shaders?

Googling 8800GT + Everquest2 shows that MANY 8x00 series users experience low / stuttery frame rates - that's in an engine issue. *sigh

Haha, talk about a huge waste of money! :P
ATI's new card looks very sexah for the price. Anyway, I don't only play EQ2, so I'm safe. ;)
