Ok, I have a few questions to ask and I can’t find the answers for them, if they have already been answered then I sincerely apologize for the repeated questions.
First I want to say that I intend on creating a fully customized legit server once eq2emu makes it to RC1, and that I have very little knowledge on the subject of coding and whatnot, so I am using this time to learn what I need to and to get what I can done now.
Question 1: How exactly does the emulator load item icons? I can view all of the DDS icons in Photoshop, but how do I determine what its icon number is? Are the icons numbered left to right? Top to bottom? And in what order are the files loaded?
Question 2: Is it currently possible to have equipped items visible on the player? Namely armor, I have messed around with it a little bit to no avail and wanted to know if the code is even there or if I am just wasting time.

The icons are numbered from left to right, and there are 36 icons per .dds file. Don't concern yourself with how the files are loaded.
(e.g.- icon_is1.dds holds icon #'s 0-35)

Yes. You have to give the item an appearance. Look at the table of appearances. You then have to link the related fields in the item_appearances table.

Only comment I have is on the tutorials. There is a Wiki setup here, which as anyone knows, a Wiki is a community-supported documentation system. The devs here are hopeful that the community will continue to add information to the Wiki as it becomes available.
The emulator is in good shape, but nowhere near release, with enough things changing still that writing documentation right now would be futile. As Zcoretri said - lots of info on the forums, though unorganized, but if you are feverish to begin, the info is here.
Soon I hope to start releasing some bits and pieces of the database (in at least a raw form) so admins can get a taste for how things will link up. But it's slow going, and like I said, things are changing daily. No sense doing so immediately.
