Sorry - SOE's change, not ours.
The remainder of this post is obsolete, and is no longer being updated (only the Current Client Compatibility is being updated). For an up-to-date project status, see the Project Status portal module found here. It is even searchable ;)

Devs: Please be diligent in updating the Project Status info when you add/complete a system or sub-system. Thanks!

Keywords for searching for this thread: Current Client Compatible EQ2Emulator Database Why am I so lazy I cannot look at the first stickied topic in a forum clearly called "Project Status"?

I have the client working right now, I just need to fix some things that broke. Probably by tomorrow.

I will be adding tSO functionality status to this list as soon as it is discovered, as a "after we get everything else done" sort of time frame.

Outside of data collection, the only real functionality that TSO brought to EQ2 are the ability to buy items with things besides cash or status (Void Shards, appreciation notes, DIRTY money, etc) and quests that can expire after x hours (not timed quests, but quests that actually leave your quest journal if not completed in the alloted time).

I saw a new Minimap thingy, though that might just be UI stuff. Hadn't dug into the new expansion yet.

The minimap is just a second map window. they use the same maps as the big one. I doubt that it would add any additional work for us outside of getting the regular map working.

"Backwards Compatability"?

Hi team,
Firstly, I Google'd 'EQ2 Emulator' "for a bit of a laugh" after reading about the various EQ emulators on Wikipedia - When I found this site I nearly "had kittens" (as we say here in the UK) as it's like a dream come true for me (seriously)
To contextualise this post with a bit of background: I joined EQ2 in November 2004 and still have two active accounts at the time of writing this. In short; I am more than a little obsessed with EQ2 (sad but true). Having said all of this; I am of the firm belief that Smedley (et al) killed the game by nerfing / dumbing it down to an almost unplayable level. The early days of EQ2 are where most of my fond memories stem from, by far
To cut to the chase and to kind of get to the point (and to ask for the moon on a stick): I see that there are some screenshots here of those halcyon days (circa 2005). Is there any way that you guys / gals can release a "legacy version" of EQ2 like the SWGEmu team have attempted to do with pre-nerfed Star Wars Galaxies? I do realise that this will probably be nigh on impossible, but I couldn't resist the temptation of asking regardless
Anyway; keep up the good work - I will follow this project with much interest, whether I end up having to play in the Sinking Sands or not

Using the old 2004 client is impossible because we dont have any logs from that timeframe. However, it is possible for someone to create a "classic" world based on the original game concept. It would not be easy but it is possible.

The goal of the 'official' database team is to replicate the current live world as much as possible. With the newer clients, new features have been added that require support. So again, from an 'official eq2emulator db' standpoint, it will be live-like.
However, in our adventures in doing this, we're learning (and developing ;)) abilities to see many of the older concepts can work. Not directly, but the game you and I both started Nov 2004 I feel can be realized with a lot of custom effort. My personal server, when this is all said and done, is planned as "Classic EQ2", but we'll see if I ever have time for that task. :)
Welcome! It's good to see someone excited about the project.

BACKUP YOUR 5582L CLIENTS NOW!!!
This will be the last live client update until after SOE destroys our spells next month :)

If you lose compatibility with the Emu after this date, do not complain. You have been warned - again!

Quick note to you testers, those reporting bugs...

After going through almost 200 submitted bugs (WOOT, btw! Awesome work, gang. We love that!) I am finding bugs reported about entire zones missing, or functionality that hasn't even been considered yet.

Using the Project Status above, if you do not see a [4] next to the system (Phase 4: Testing), do not bother reporting a bug on it. We know it doesn't work. Hope this helps clarify what we need tested.

Thanks again for all the hard work. Our bug list looks wonderful. Lots of work on us, but at least we know what to fix!
