It's because the new trial uses the streaming client, which means you don't have all the assets local to your computer. That is causing the failures.

Officially, the Trial Client is no longer supported here. I have updated the Welcome message and Project Status posts to reflect this.

Sorry to those of you using the trial. Buy the box sets, or you cannot play EQ2Emulator. We need to keep SOE happy.

Does this mean that the 6122L client is the last client the Emu will support, or are we switching to the streaming model eventually?

This is actually only slightly true.

The new trial on the website is a streaming client. If you already have eq2 installed and use station launcher and run a trial account (you can create one there too) it updates like normal.

JCL is correct. Currently only the trial mandates the streaming client. The devs have said that although the streaming client is an option, it will never be mandatory for playing the game. We should be safe
